Rep.Mobley in Georgia has proposed HB 1380 as an evident replacement for the AWB. I composed and sent the following letter to my state representatives:
I take the time to write you today to express my concern that a bill as poorly researched and written as HB1380 should ever be allowed to become law.

HB1380 as written clearly shows that Rep.Mobley has not taken the time to separate the fictions generated by such associations as the VPC (a group that has publicly claimed the abolishment of personal firearm rights as its ultimate goal) from the truth. Though the document asserts that the weapons it is trying to restrict are particularly lethal because they enable the shooter, and I quote, to "simply point, rather than carefully aim, the
weapon to quickly spray a wide area with a hail of bullets", they support this claim with an example such as the DC area shootings carried out by John Muhammad and Lee Malvo. It is noteworthy that these so called 'DC Snipers' did not "quickly spray a wide area with a hail of bullets", but rather took single individual shots at their victims.

I make this distinction only to illustrate my point that legislation such as the current federal Assault Weapons Ban and proposed legislation such as HB 1380 do not have an appreciable impact on criminal homicides and are not motivated by a desire to curtail murders, but rather by a desire to curtail personal firearms ownership. The DC sniper attacks could have been carried out by any kind of rifle; it is Lee Malvo and John Muhammad
who are to blame for those slayings, not the Bushmaster AR-15 they used.

The creation of HB1380 shows that the fantasies created by supporters of the Federal AWB have taken root in Georgia. Detachable magazines that accept more than 10 rounds, flash suppressors, folding stocks and bayonet lugs do not turn normal law abiding Americans into bloodthirsty murderers. What such nitpicking and seemingly random legislation does is turn unaware Americans into felons overnight for possessing a weapon with criteria deemed to be too evil for civilian ownership.

I hope that you and your offices will more thoroughly investigate the claims made by Rep.Mobley in this bill and compare them with statistics released by such agencies as the FBI and the Department of Health instead of those selectively extracted by such politically motivated associations as the VPC before you decide on which side of this matter you will cast your vote.

It aggravates me greatly that we might finally be rid of the onerous Federal AWB only to have it replaced by a CA style state one.

Georgians, this is our call to arms. Send letters to your representatives (Found here. ) and let them know how you feel about this!

PS: I came down from Virginia where we had the VCDL ( Virginia Citizen's Defense League); perhaps the institution of a GCDL is in order...
