Steel for rifle plate

What kind of steel should I use to make a rifle plate? I'll mostly be shooting 7.62x39, 8mm, 30.06, and some shotgun slugs. Thanks

ar500, easier to buy them predrilled. Its too hard to cut and drill without proper equipment. Dont settle for less. You'll pay more upfront but it will last and be alot safer to shoot

AR 500 3/8" thick is the starting point for centerfire rifle plates. Wideners has some nice prices on raw 1/2" AR500 plates with two pre-drilled mounting holes.
