I just bought an old Rem 11. It did not have the steel friction ring. I am having a hard time finding 1 on the net. Anyone know where to find such a thing?
Thanks

The ring is interchangeable between A5, 11's, and the 720. The friction pieces differ slightly, but they will work.

Actually, I may still have one in the safe, give me two shakes to check.

Thanks RC & 45 guy
#4 for pheasants for sure
Will the barrel handle 2-3/4 nontoxic steel ? or will it burst at the choke? its full choke.
I would like to use it for Snow geese this year. But if steel is a NO NO? I have a couple other shotguns that handle steel. I just dnt like them.

No steel in a full choke Model 11!!!
The muzzle is thin, and the steel was softer back when that gun was made.
It didn't need to be thicker & harder then becasue steel shot hadn't even been thought of yet.

Steel shot won't pattern worth a darn in a full choke anyway.

A MOD gives Full choke pattern.
An IC gives a Mod pattern.

Steel FRICTION RING, not steel shot.

Steel patterns just like lead, only it holds the pattern a little tighter because of less pellet deformation. All that talk was I believe hoopla generated by the gun companies back in the early days because they were worried about damage to their guns from the early loads, and the mantra has stuck. I have found large pellet loads to pattern tighter with about an improved modified choke in any event. The break point is around #4 sized shot.

Most A5 parts do not interchange, but the rings and springs do. A new set is cheap insurance for another half century of service.

And I'd get a new buffer from Numrich or Brownells and have it installed by the smith doing the above parts swap.

I've seen some 11 barrels bulged behind the choke from steel. Skip it.

Im gonna stick with lead & just hunting pheasants with it I guess. Stupid nontoxic laws on geese hunting. a month earlier everyone was throwing lead at pheasants & quail in the same fields.
