No.

Steel core means the bullet has a steel core inside the metal bullet jacket.
Used by the military to promote hard-target penetration, among other things.

Steel case means the cartride case itself is made from steel, rather then brass.
Used by the communiest countrys because thay don't have a lot of copper mines available to them to make cheap brass cartridge cases.
They do have a lot of iron mines though!

In WWII, both Germany and the U.S. used steel cartridge cases, but Germany was ahead in production techniques and it was German technology that the Russians took over after the war.

The U.S. tried to make .30-'06 and .50 MG cases from steel, but was not very successful. They did make .45 ACP and .30 Carbine cases (as well as 20 and 40mm) out of steel.

Really didn't know that...interesting. Why couldn't we figure it out anyway?

I'm sure we could have, but we didn't have a real pressing need like the Axis & communist countries.

The U.S. & South America has historically mined & produced more copper then any other countrys in the world.

Besides, it was found that steel cases did not perform as well as brass cases, due to difficult extraction, and other reasons.

The com-block guns were designed from the get-go to work with steel cases. (Cartridge shaped with more taper, robust extractors, and chrome-lined chambers.)

Our weapons weren't, and still aren't.
