Stevens Barrel Swap

I have a 223 Stevens 200 I am going to sell or swap barrels on.

How hard is it to change the barrel on a stevens?

Does anyone know where there is a 243 barrel at to go on the my stevens?

Should stevens and savage barrels interchange?

Any other stevens/savage short action barrels for sale anywhere?

Viking in your case it wont be as simple as swapping barrels , .223 and .243 have different case head sizes so you would need a new bolt head installed as well , which could lead to having to re time the bolt tho i am unsure on that . Considering the price of Stevens / Savage rifles and the cost and aggervation of the bolt head issue , IMHO you would be better off looking for a good condition used .243 or even watch sales on new ones .

I think you'll need a different bolt head for anything other than .223, other than that a barrel for a m10 (short action) Savage should work.

If the rifle is a 223 then just swapping the barrel for a 243 would not work. The bolt or bolt head would need to also be changed. If you wanted a switch barrel then your going to need to get something that has the same base diameter as a 223 like a 204 ruger I think is close if not the same.

You could have the bolt face turned and made bigger to accept the 243 case head. but that is going to cost you more than the rifle is really worth.

bolt heads (from what I hear) are easily changed as well...
