I just can't decide! I want a Steyr, but I am not sure which size. I was wondering if the grip on the S9 is like that of the Glock subcompacts, one where your pinky hangs off the gun. It SEEMS to have enough room in the pics that I have seen, but I was wondering if anyone here has firsthand (ohh, a pun) experience.

Judging from the amount of Steyr posts, I am pretty sure a bunch of you will have the answer!:D I have a G19 and love it, but I would like something a little smaller, but not at the cost of comfort.

Thanks.

I have a M40-the grip on it leaves about 1/2 inch of space below my hand. The grip on the S9 that I picked up the other day fits perfectly, if it was any smaller than my pinky would fall off the grip. I found the gun very comfortable despite it's small size, I believe the only think that would make it better for concelment is if it was as thin as a 1911, but thin it would be a single stack.

WELCOME TO THE HIGH ROAD:D

I am also looking at the Steyr,in the S series. My question to add is... for a gun of this size is the 40 S&W too big for felt rcoil? or is the 9mm a better choice for the added round? Wich is a better performer in the S-series?

I had the same dilemma as you... Fortunately, I was able to try both models before buying. I must say I didn't hesitate one second: the M9 9mm is the best. And an extra cartridge can make a difference in certain cases...

my experience is pretty much the same as Flashpoint's ... I have both an M40 and an S40 and the grip on the S40 is the perfect length ... all three fingers fit on it but there is no extra grip below them. Makes all the difference for CCW.

The M9 is almost exactly the same size as the G19 (I've shot my M40 side by side with a G23 ... the G23 is basicaly the .40 version of the G19).

If you're going to CCW I'd go for the S9

Zundfolge- I should have PM'd you anyway, as you seem to be a die-hard Steyr fan. Cool GT avatar.:D

Thanks for helping out everybody, I appreciate it! I am up in the air on my next few purchases, so I may call upon your help in the future.

Oh, almost forgot. Amy opinions on carry/HD ammo? I got Ranger 147's, and Gold Dot 124+p. Gold dots, right?

Gold Dots is what I would use. I am think seriously about buying an S9 to use as a Truck/biking/hiking gun.

get both :D

recoil with steyr s40 is nothing major little more noticeable than with fullsize m40. heck its basicly same gun minus half inch grip and barrel. M series magazine will work in S series.
