Steyr S9 and S40 - any recalls or problems I should be aware of?

I am buying a couple of Steyr pistols. A 9mm S9 and a .40SW S40. They are both new in box, never used.

Is there any problem with any of these models that I should look at/take care of? Any recalls?

The S9 10 round magazine capacity called my attention. I was expecting 12 rounds, and it surprises me that the S9 has the same mag capacity of the Glock 26, given the fact that the S9 grip is longer than the 26's. I have a G26, and besides grip shape considerations, I am not totally convinced of replacing one gun with another which is a bit bigger but same capacity. Any comments?

Thanks for your help.

advantage over Glocks is you can get a full grip, no pinky dangle. much less recoil due to lower bore axis and a bit more weight. awesome sights and manual safety if you want to use it (I'm assuming we are talking gen 1 S9 and not the newer S9-A1)

the mags were built during the 10 rd mag limit days back in the 90's. if you take the 10 rd 40 cal mags and bend the feed lips in just slightly (just enough to hold the 9mm rds) you can get 12 rds of 9mm in the 40 cal mags and they still work just fine with 40 cal in the S40.

for lots of great info on these pistols

oh yeah, there is an extractor upgrade, just call Jeff Reece at SAI, ph # is over on the Steyr Club, and he'll send you the latest. never had any issues with any of my 4 Steyrs though.

Thanks breacher. Good help.

..and yes, we are talking 1st gen S9 and S40

I actually like the older gen 1 grip better than the new A1 series. they fit my hand perfectly but I miss the tac rail to hang my Surefire X200 on.
