Stiff Leather

I just recently purchased a Don Hume H715-M for my P99, and it is really stiff. I can't even get the pistol in and out of it without much effort. Does anyone know the best way to break it in?

The way I've broken in my holsters (a Galco Fletch for my P99 and a Galco Summer Comfort IWB for my Springfield Ultra-Compact) is to put the holster under warm running water to get it wet. Not sopping wet, but just wet through the leather.

I then wrap the gun (unloaded of course) in plastic cling wrap and holster it. In the case of the Fletch I tightened the screw down for a few hours and then backed it off a couple of turns.

Worked like I charm. I couldn't draw the Walther before; the next morning it's like glass.

As for the IWB that was REALLY tight. After the first try didn't work I ended up rewetting the holster and wrapping the gun in 5 zip-lock bags and leaving it overnight to stretch. That did the trick.

What Lou Alessi of Alessi Gun Leather and Tony of Milt Sparks recommend is not wetting the holster but to wrap your pistol in the plastic bag the holster came in and holstering the plastic wrapped pistol and leaving it over night. You can also use a thin man's dress sock to wrap your pistol in.

Personally, I just coat the insides of my new holsters with C. Rusty Sherrick's Hyde Glyde, let the holster set for 15 minutes or so and then holster the pistol and leave it over night.

spray silicon on the inside of the holster and work the pistol in and out after you spray can help.

Leather stretches naturally. It doesn't need to be wet.

The dry lubes are great for inside the holster. But to stretch the leather to fit your gun faster, wipe your gun down with CLP and wrap it in plastic wrap. Insert in holster.

The next day, the holster should have stretched a little, and because the plastic wrap adds a few mils to the size of your gun, it helps. Maybe take two or three nights to get the fit you want.
