i appreciate all of you peoples help, but i went to both of the sites that you told me to go to and i STILL CANNOT find anything out abiut the NON "marked" rifle i have. I checked out alll of the cross referencing sites you spoke of and it isn't really necessary to have a picture is it if i have the serial number..the only pic i have of it is from the auction site and its not detailed enough of a pic of the whole rifle. there are no other marks on the rilfe except for those numbers(or letters) which are ALLL original and matching on separate metal pieces. i looked at allll of the world war one guns and never saw a two piece stock which is built up to accomodate the siting mechanism...and there were no other rifles that had the side mounting for the shoulder harness...THAT characteristic seems to be unique to alll of the rifles i looked at which were used in world war one...reckon i should research world war two now?....any help?...:) :) thnx for whatever it is that you've provided me with so far....but DEAD END so far...frustrated indeed!!>>>>SIDENOTCH

any help out there? about the non identifiable world war one rifle... am i researching the wrong war period?

The trouble is, without an idea of what we're looking at (which takes a picture), we don't even know that what you have is the proper serial number; it could just as easily be a unit issue or ordnance number, or something similar. A "two-piece stock" sounds like it COULD be a Lee-Enfield target rifle, but if so, it should be clearly marked on the side of the butt socket. If you post the picture(s) you have, I'm sure you'll get all the information you could desire.
