Lets all use our stimulus checks we are getting from Uncle Sam and buy a handgun the day Heller prevails. Timing should be about right.

I am all for that.
Mine is going towards a stainless steel S&W Model 66 2 1/2" barrel .357 Magnum.
It was discontinued a few years ago so I'm searching for a good conditioned used one.
Or the original blue Model 19 of the same revolver.

I might use mine on an AR upper, or maybe just spend it on 600 dollars worth of ammunition. or accessories for the guns, they can all use an influx of extra stuff once in awhile. maybe get a really good holster instead of the perfectly fine ones im using now.

SIRVEYR666,
Don't forget to set aside 30% so that you can pay 2008 income tax on our stupid gift from the government. :barf:
may not be true. Though I found it hard to believe, it has been written in the media that you will not pay Federal tax on the stimulus check and it "reportedly" will not be considered an advance on your 2008 tax return. However, you MAY need to pay State tax as some states MAY consider your rebate taxable income.

I do not think I even own an American gun. I am going to buy exclusively an American gun so I honor the spirit of the stimulus check. Thanks for S&W, Colt , Stag..... George W!

This isn't income. It is an income tax refund given early. Do you pay taxes on your income tax rebates? Of course not- it is money overpaid to the government, not income. When it was income (from your employer), you paid tax on it, of which that overpayment was a part. Hence the refund.

The "economic stimulus" is a reduction in the lowest marginal tax rate for FY 2008 and sent out early, instead of you having to wait until you file your 08 taxes. That's how they did it with the last "economic stimulus rebate" and that's what they're doing now.

Personally, I plan to get a rifle. It may not be a US nameplate, but it will be made in the US- either an AR or something in the same category of firearm.

Technosavant,
I don't think you're correct. As I said in my earlier reply to this thread "Though I found it hard to believe, it has been written in the media that you will not pay Federal tax on the stimulus check and it "reportedly" will not be considered an advance on your 2008 tax return. I guess wait and see, but I could not help but be skeptical and cynical about this. I'll spend some of it, but save the rest for the taxes I'll likely have to pay to the State.

Buy a gun with it?. I don't think the wifey will go for it, but I believe I can still muster up the funds to buy one in honor of the courts decision. Good idea. It will always be my "refund" gun. :D

I wonder what it will be? :scrutiny:

Oh yea, refund my A**. They took it from me in the first place. Hmmm.... "stimulus" gun. :)

already ahead of you.

I was gonna wait till i actually got the check to buy a EAA witness match in .45acp but i crumbled and put in the order yesterday at the gunshop....should be at the shop tomorrow.

I'll use the other $100 towards a lee classic turret reloading kit.

Much as I'd like to get another gun, I think mine's going to the few bills I have. The government missed out on a prime lesson they could have imparted. "Here's money you've given to the government in trust. People have mortgages, credit bills, car loans, etc.... Take this money and use it to pay some down, or invest it." They should have included that on that paper they sent out.
Imagine for a moment if every stimulus check were used to pay off a loan or invested in the market.... I think that would stimulate the economy more than a new flat-screen TV or paying a down on another car loan would.

Then again, maybe I should buy more ammo for when we descend into anarchy. :D

I think I am also going to probably buy some ammo... maybe some just plain jane bullets for my wonderful press... give me enough to shoot for a couple of years if I spend it right

Ruger SP101 here, just put it on L/A tonight and will pick it up as soon as my stimulus package arrives. Whatevers left will go to ammo for social unpleasantness that will probably follow the economic collapse our leaders are intent to bring upon us.

Unfortunately, mine is most likely going to go to my Debt Reduction Stimulous Plan. Like my friend at work says though, what's reducing your debt gonna do if I come over to your house with a gun and rob you of your assets because you didn't use the tax rebate to buy another gun? lol If I do use it, it will be on a Les Baer, I think.

IMPORTANT!!!

The purpose of this check is to stimulate the economy, hence "economic stimulus package". If you buy from a big box store, you're not really helping; especially not on a local level.

Support the small shops with this money, even if it means paying a little more!

Hi friends, I am wondering if someone who is approved for a car loan to get a car. My mother in law qualifies for the VA car loan, through her late husband who was in Vietnam and died from something he contracted from the war. She wants to use this VA loan to get me and my husband a house. Can she do this if she isn't planning on living there? Also, is the VA car loan based on her income?
