I read with great interest Will Fennell's post about the 7 pointer taken with the 10mm.

I knew a Houston PD sgt. that used to provide after hrs. security for an office building in Greenspoint where I worked. He carried a .40 caliber Taurus (!) and said he killed an east Texas doe with 2 quick shots using whatever the HPD .40 cal standard load was at the time- he was carrying it as a sidearm while hunting at his brother's place.

Anyhow, I was kind of thinking about taking my old Springfield 1911 out this weekend and maybe next, it being the last 2 weekends of TX deer season. I have shot Hornady 230 gr XTP +P through it and it is pretty accurate out to 25 yds, so I am thinking about using this load

Anybody have any other suggestions?

Kurt,

Good bullet, same thing I'm loading for mine. I'm using a Hornady 180 XTP in my 10mm also.

Best ............... Mike

That Hornady 230gr HP-XTP... if I was going to deer hunt up close and personal with a .45, that's what I'd use. Put it through a deer's lungs out to 25yds and it oughta do the job as good as anything.
