You see it in the movies all the time, but are sawn off shotguns illegal as opposed to a regular shotgun with a pistol grip. Im just wondering, i mean the barrel being 18 inches is what keeps it legal correct? I've always wondered about that part. I remember the old ithaca Auto and burglar had a sorta pistol gripish stock.

The barrel has to be at least 18", but the shotgun has to be an overall length to meet the ATF's criteria. I just can't remember what that length is.

OA length has to be 26" or greater.
