Stolen gun databases

Hi everyone. I am trying to compile a list for our customer of statewide stolen gun databases. If y'all could help it will save some time.

Thanks, but unfortunately that website has no traction whatsoever. The state sites are really what I'm looking for, but I guess nobody wants to help.

Why not just Google what you need? Assuming all 50 states have such websites, it'll only take you a little while to gather all the info you need.

Not every state makes stolen property information available to the general public. I might be wrong but I think in Washington you need to be LEO or FFL to gain access. You have 49 Google searches to go.

It isn't that "nobody wants to help" ... it that nobody =can= help. There is =no= centralized database of "stolen guns", and very few non-centralized ones.

Plus ... if they are like any other government run database I've ever had the pleasure to deal with .. they will be =wildly= inaccurate and out of date.

I haven't been able to come up with a comprehensive free access site for Georgia.

The NCIC is about as good a database as you'll find, but it's LE only. Also, not every stolen gun will get entered into it.

To answer, this is why I ask rather than just google. There is inside information that people know about their own state. The out of date thing is something I hadn't considered either. It is almost definitely true.

I don't see the NCIC stolen gun database even mentioned on that page. I have a spec to make the system ourselves, but getting people to enter the data is a challenge. LE isn't going to do it because it won't be owned by the government.

It is just so frustrating isn't it. There should be ONE PLACE to check a gun before buying it. Any more state info out there??

It is that frustration, once his gun was stolen, that lead my partner and I to develop www.stolenweapon.com. I noticed that you mentioned that our site had no traction but you may be glad to know that our site has been up a little over a year and it is averaging a little over 3 stolen guns submitted per day.
From all the research that we did we could not find any other sites other than the Florida site. We are expecting our site to be that ONE PLACE so far it has gotten great exposure.

If you want to know if it's stolen, or at least do a little due dilligence, run it through NCIC.

Stolen firearms entered w/ a serial number are listed nationwide. Yes, you need an agency to run the numbers. I can't see any reason why a PD wouldn't enter a stolen firearm into NCIC...
