Stolen rifle.

Awesome news! Hopefully the guns are returned home. Thank goodness for the stupidity of the common criminal :D

I called the pd at around 4:30 today. After all that happened yesterday all that they would say is the case is not in the system yet. ***!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone will hang be it the criminal or the cops.

I already posted this in Legal but was told to post it here too. On monday my rifle among other things was stolen. It is a ruger #1 (I think a 2000 model varminter) .243 winchester. The SN is 133-77366. It was stolen here in Lubbock, TX. The police have finally added my case to the system but that as much as they have been able to tell me. I am still waiting to hear back from the detective. Thanks in advance.

I wish you the best.

30+ years ago my grandmother was dying of lung cancer. My grandfather rented an apartment 40 miles from their country home to be near her during her final weeks. Being from an extremely small community, everyone knew Mr. Jim was gone.

Needless to say, some unknown person(s) broke into his home and made off with numerous firearms. Among them was a:
Belgium made Browning A-5 12 ga.
M1 Garand (My Paw Paw brought this back from WWII)
Winchester 12 ga. Pump (My Daddy's squirrel gun)
bolt action .22 (My Paw Paw taught me to shoot with this one)
Savage .410 (The first gun my daddy bought me)

Of course this was before NCIC came about. Not that it would have mattered because none of the serial numbers were written down. At that time it was even a consideration as crime in that community at the time was unheard of.

Needless to say, I’ll never see them, nor will I pass them down to my son.

:(

A few minutes later the police call me and tell me that they got 2 of the 3 guys. As long as these guys haven’t already unloaded all of my stuff I think that I should get it back.

Wonderful news!!! I wish you well!!!

it SUCKS having firearms stolen. my uncle was broken into 3 times and ripped off. the cops figured it was the same person doing it every time. but they never did nail the guy. after having around 50 guns stolen, he got a whopping 3 back. one of them was unique enough it was easy to find. it was a double barreled pivoting muzzle loader. for some reason, the third time was the last time he was broken into. he figured the guy got caught doing something else wrong, and went away for a long time. i really hope you get your gun back. unfortunatly, i wouldn't hold my breath. i don't know what the laws are in tx, but here, no paperwork is required for long arm sales between private individules. if that is the case in tx., it may already be in someone elses collection.

So, what happened? Did the guys who got arrested tell the cops where to find the stolen rifle?

No sadly no rifle yet. Aparently my forgery case got lost so they just made a new case when they got these guys. In the original case it refrenced my burglary case the new one did not. After talking with Internal Affairs on monday I got all that staightened out. But sadly still no rifle. And they think that the people who cashed my checks were not the ones that stole all my stuff. They told me that most of the time around here one someone steals checks they sell the checks to other people instead of using them themselves.

Sounds like your local PD is on top of things...a certain image comes to mind:

:)

Go to local firing ranges, call every store that sells bullets, see if your caliber has been purchased, explain your situation to some radio stations. You can hire a PI and do some Sherlock holmes type thinking. My dad got me my first .22 when I was 14 that was stolen in less than a year. Then my dads 30-06 was stolen, and I think I know who did it, but it's a complicated situation, besides i know the pawn shop that does take guns breaks them down and sells the parts, **********.

bdbecker Hope for the best, but expect the worst...

My truck got broken into in Kansas City last October. I figured everything was long gone (tools, GPS, MP3, leather jacket, etc) but I got a call a week later from a dectective saying that they found my all my stuff. Keep a positive attitude, while it does suck, it is just stuff.

If you have so many possessions that mean so little to you they are "just stuff," I both envy and pity you.

I lost some guns, and the guitar my wife gave me as an engagement present, a decade ago this month.

Yes, I am still incensed, and wish to catch the perp.

No, I did not take ANY comfort in the wishes of, "It's a good thing you weren't home" and "At least it was only stuff."

I don't keep possessions that are not meaningful to me. Therefore, their loss is painful.

Just an update. The PD caught the guy that was selling my checks to the other people. I went down to the PD to talk to the detective this morning. They have not searched this guys place because "he would not admit to stealing the checks". The detective even seemed like he was mad at me for even being there. It pissed me off to the point that I just had to leave as to not get myself arrested for assaulting an officer. I will be going back on monday and talking with IA if they can not do anything I will be getting a lawyer and filing a civil suit against the detective and department.

I hope everything works out and you get your rifles back. Very sad when something sentimental is gone. I hope with IA+lawyer breathing down their neck they treat you as a somebody. God bless brother.

Good luck. I was burglerized a few years back and the police did nothing. It seemed fairly clear that it was the neighbors but they were never questioned. The police told me that the case was closed and they weren't going to pursue it and that if I could prove who it was, they would then re-open the case. I gave up, called the insurance company, and got back most of the value of what I lost.

I must say, all of my firearms are just stuff. They are tools and entertainment, no different than the wrenches or DVDs I own. If they were taken, as mad as I would be and have been, I would be and was thankful I and others in my household weren't hurt for them. They are insured and they are all replaceable. While his grandfathers rifle may be a bit unique, it was still just a tool. I know for certain my grandfather would not want me to be harmed for his rifle and that he would be far happier to hear it was stolen than to hear I was killed and it was stolen. It's far better to lose an item than to lose a person. Material items are just that. No need to be devastated by their loss, sentimental value or not.

Well I do not plan on giving up on this. If the police do not find this scumbag I will. I did not have renters insurance which I know is my own fault. I now do have it though. Yes I do know that it is just material items and that they can be replaced but the memorys that go with that gun can not. I dont care if I get anouther no1 even if its only one sn off from mine it is still not the gun my granddad gave me.

There you go finally one for the good guys. If it's legal, I would post their names and addresses so we can send them a christmas card .
