Ok, there has been a guy around my place selling some pistols for cheap. 20-50 bucks each. I would like to get these off the street just so nobody gets hurt by them.

Yes I have called the police and given them a description of the guy and even called him while he was near my apt building. the havent caught him yet.

Ok the question is this, do I let him keep selling these things around here, (I KNOW he's not got a FFL), chase him off (not a good idea, as he has a lot of GUNS), or buy them off him and turn them in.

Now, I called the local LEOs here and they told me I'd go to jail for buying illegal guns, stolen property, etc.

HELP ME GUYS!!!!!!(and GALS!!!!!)

DO NOT buy them.

Continue calling the police, and give a shout to the BATFE.

Considered that this may be a sting? Do not buy them.

Did I mention not buying them? That would be a BAD idea.

In closing, don't buy them.

that is what I was thinking. this guy had NIB items. that threw up a flag.

I mean, besides the obvious, how would one know they are stolen firearms? Transactions take place daily that have no legitemate way of confirming stolen or not.

Is handgun possession banned in Iowa? Do firearms need to be registered? If not, then there's nothing wrong with buying the guns. You could buy one and immediately take it to the police for a trace and a dusting for prints (to ID the seller.)

All states define what constitutes a crime. Generally, there has to be a union between an act and criminal intent to commit the act (or negligence.) Considering that you have evidence demonstrating your concern for the actions of this individual, I serious doubt you would be charged with a crime if the gun you bought turns out to be stolen.

Another suggestion, while pretending to look at the guns , write down or try to memorize at least one ser #, then give it to police, or let a local gun dealer run it and see for sure.
