I ordered a Stormlake conversion barrel along with a couple M&P9 magazines. I believe I ordered the proper barrel. Part # 34131. I have the full size M&P40.
Any how, I noticed a disclaimer that althought the barrel is suppose to be a drop in part, some fitting may be required.
Has anybody got one of these and, if fitting need, in what area? Thanks!

I have one. Dropped right into my FS M&P40. Works flawlessly, run through a few thousand rounds without an single hiccup, and is very accurate.

Be well

That is good to know. The disclaimer may be just for a small percentage that is over the borderline of some specs. A CYB thing.

Keep me posted, i have bee debating on getting one of these barrels. i have them for all the 40 glocks i have but always wanted one for the M&P

Take this for what it's worth as I have no direct knowledge... only what I've read on the net. I tend to click on these threads because they're interesting to me.

I've never read of any issues of barrel fitment.

Storm Lake stuff is generally good, but I simply bought an M&P 9 Compact barrel for my M&P 40 Compact from Midway ($65 at the time) It dropped right in and POA/POI shift was insignificant. Turns out I haven't put the .40S&W barrel back in for a very long time.

I believe you can do the same with the Shield .40 too. I have them in both 9mm and .40 S&W, I carry the .40 practice with the 9mm, practice ammo savings essentially paid for the gun in about a year). The 9mm barrel fit nicely in my .40 but I haven't actually tried it as I didn't need to as I have both pistols.

Same here. I tried it out for the first time last weekend and it worked like a champ. POI very similar to the resident .40 barrel. Very pleased.

Not Storm Lake, but I got a Bar-Sto 9mm conversion barrel for my SIG P229 that was listed as "semi drop-in," with the disclaimer that some custom fitting might be required.

The Bar-Sto dropped right into my SIG and (okay, somewhat to my surprise) fired as reliably as the factory original .40 barrel.

It made me wonder if the "semi drop-in" label was a CYA disclaimer on the part of Bar-Sto, just to circumvent any possible liability on the remote chance the barrel didn't happen to match up... I guess they have no idea what the condition might be of the firearm for which they're sending the barrel. :)

I have a Storm Lake 9mm. barrel assembly for my Colt Commander in .38 Super and it's definitely a drop-in fit. No extra fitting or modifications required.

I received the Stormlake barrel yesterday, along with 2-17 rd. factory magazines.
The barrel did drop in place and racking the slide, there is no detectable snags. So far, good. Barrel looks to be of good quality.
It was a bit too windy to take it to the range for an accuracy check. Monday's forcast looks better.
For the barrel and 2 magazines, I paid just under $130 shipped from grabagun.com. The magazines were $17ish, but now are listed at about $32.
Now to swing by Hobby Lobby for some model car paint to brighten those dull white dot sights.
I'll update with a range report, soon, hopefully.

Fingernail polish works well also.
Sometimes there is some around you can appropriate:) (do this at your own risk)
Appreciate the tip. My wife doesn't do nail polish, and our daughter is in college and works, so I'm not sure what lurks in her room. Lol
It may be safer at Hobby Lobby. :D

Thanks for the follow up.

Regarding the dull white sights, I noticed just the other day mine were too.

I took a q-tip, cut one end off and use a knife to make a point. Like sharpening a pencil with a knife.

That and a little spit really brightened them up to just like new. :D

Actually, the front sight dot fell out shortly after I installed the Apex trigger kit. I applied some white out with a toothpick into the sight pocket. It has worked for a little while.

Well, I got to the range today with the new drop-in barrel and magazines.

Note to self: Don't try out a new or upgraded gun with new untested work up reloads.

The 1st magazine I loaded up with 147 gr. in nickel brass. I knew these loads were light loads. But the very 1st shot and the case stove piped. Cleared it and the case was split. I seen where the bullet hit the target, so I know it wasn't a stuck bullet. My first thought was an over sized or unsupported chamber. Pulled the barrel and placed a cartridge into the chamber. All seemed okay.
Went up a step on charges and all shot and extracted, no stove pipe. But the slide didn't lock back after last round. Stepped up to the next charge, and all ran well. Ran several more magazines through and it functioned as should.

POI is very close to the 40. It shoots a bit lower than the 40, by maybe 1 1/2" @ 10 yds. Or it could be me shooting on a different day. Both 9 and 40 shoots to the left by about 1". A little tap of adjustment to the right should take care of that. Now just to find my sight tapper....

If I have any negative experience, would be the magazine, and getting the first round into it. But like wine, I'm sure it will get better with time.

I think this conversion will give me more time with the M&P. So far, I have no regrets with it.
