Hey all,

I need some assistance here to help me figure out what is going on with the trigger on my Beretta 92 Custom Carry.

I bought it new probably 15 years ago. Not long after buying it the standard trigger spring broke. I had advice to replace it with one of the "D" spring conversions. WOLFF makes them, but I don't know if I bought a WOLFF or an off brand. I bought it off a buddy that came and installed it for me.

Fast forward to now. This "problem" has been with it for years, I've just never really focused on it cause it spends most of the time locked away. I got it out the other day and now I want to get it fixed.
When the safety is off and firing, there is no discernible difference or problem. When I put the safety on and start pulling the trigger back, it will go about 1/4 inch and stick. Not stick where you can't go any farther, just stick. Know what I mean? It also does not feel smooth moving at all when the safety is on.
This same problem might be happening when I am shooting it, but I can't tell cause I am not firing it in DA mode with the long pull.

Does this have something to do with the bar on the D spring being rough or something cause that's what it reminds me of. Or could it be something else in the internals that has to do with the firing system?

I know this is not much information. I don't know how else to describe it. I guess I could make a short video and kinda demonstrate it if that would help you to help me figure out what is going on. It just feels rough when the safety is on.

Can you help or do you have any ideas?

Thanks for your help and time.

I understand that you want to know if/what is going on, but ... does it really matter how the trigger feels with the safety on?

Sounds like the safety is doing it's job blocking the trigger, not sure you really have a problem.

Engaging the safety should stop trigger movement, but the trigger should not stick.

Does the trigger free up and return to the DA mode when the safety is dis-engaged or does it remain stuck?

Well I don't know if the same thing is happening when I am firing it and I just can't detect it. What if it is a problem that can continue to worsen?

The safety is not blocking the trigger from moving. It is supposed to freely move back and forth. When I move it back gently, it will stick at a point that is maybe 1/2 inch back. It will stay there until I push it back to the front. It is not totally free moving back to front like the 92 my friend has. His is a newer 92SB in the stainless finish they use.

Maybe we are not talking about the same thing.

When I return the safety to FIRE, it will return to "normal" operation as far as I can tell. Like I said though, I don't know if the same thing isn't happening while I am shooting it.
Just trying to see if this is a problem that needs a new trigger spring or D trigger conversion unit.

You could dry fire it with the safety off and it unloaded to see if it does the same thing...

The trigger bar is snagging on the safety plunger. Remove the slide and have a look at the portion of the trigger bar that is protruding up above the right grip. Look for rough or unpolished machining and also for any burrs that might be there. Burrs can be removed easily enough and very light roughness can be polished with a stone. If the bar is too rough it will need to be replaced. It's a safety critical area and removing too much material will compromise the operation of the safety as well as the disconnect mechanism.

You won't notice it during normal firing as this area doesn't touch anything while the trigger is being pulled.

There is no such thing as a d trigger spring. Are you sure that the trigger return spring is installed correctly. It sounds like you need to take it somewhere that knows Berettas and have it looked at.

True, but lets give him a break. Its technically a "d" hammer spring but it is used as a replacement because it lightens the trigger pull.

But its not a trigger return d spring. How do you expect people to learn if you don't correct them.If its not right its not right.
