How does one get quoted “chatting up Vietnam Vets” when one typed no such thing. Now as a side note, I happen to be a Vietnam “Era” Vet (got sent to a jungle but not that one - Republic of Panama), like Pat Sajack I never fired a shot in anger and I am not in my 70’s, I will be 65 this year. I enjoyed my military service, I had a good time - I was just lucky that I got sent to the wrong jungle.

Seriously is guns the only thing of value you own anyone got a 50kplus car in there drive way big screen tv ljewelery they ware in public etc etc. move into a nice neighborhood get a alarm and top it off with insurance in case of theft flood fire.

Guns, who has guns? I lost all mine in the flood
Seriously,,,guineas make great watch dogs. Last year they drove the AC installer crazy,,,,he realized I have no control over the durn things,,, and they make a gosh awful racket... and wow, were they curious about what he was doing,,,Nope, he never saw a gun, or reloading equipment.......I was watching him every second,, serious. Even though his mom goes to our church,
The only people that enter the house, are blood, and there are three rooms that even they can’t enter..
Maintain your privacy, you paid for it, you own it.!!!

Because trunk is one very insecure dude. Maybe being a night watchman leads to paranoia. Lol

I am in the construction business. Carpenter by trade. I have always went (far) out of my way to try to disprove the commonly held opinions of construction workers. I’m also “lucky” enough to be the second generation in the business. Most of my subcontractors are long time family friends, many of which I’ve known 30+ years.

1st off, unless you are looking at a kitchen remodel, there is absolutely no reason to be at the kitchen table. My mainstay now is deck remodels. Mostly tear downs and rebuilds. Anytime I am at a customers house. Anytime from the first meeting to doing the work. Anytime I’m there, I/we are within eyesight of the deck. I’ll knock on the door. Tell them I’m there, and to meet me around at the deck, if I need to talk to them. I won’t even walk through the house to get to it. Worst case, if it’s raining or something, and if the meeting cannot be rescheduled, we’ll find cover somewhere to stand under. Worst case, we’ll stand just inside an open garage door, and I’ll always look outward.

Likewise, several years ago we had to get a new roof because of storm damage. A friend would have done the asphalt shingles, but the salesman I didn’t know. We also priced out a metal roof, that contractor I didn’t know. And the insurance adjuster, I didn’t know. In the 4 pre work meetings, at no time were we inside. It took them roughly a week for them to install the metal, they never came inside. And all this was during a central Georgia summer, mid to upper 90s and very high humidity.

The best way to secure your stuff, is to limit knowledge of it being there.

When having workers in my house I sanitize the house of all gun related materials. The workers only have access to the areas they need to have access to.My biggest problem is when the wife hires people from one of those temporary employment agencies. Almost everyone they send has problems. There are a lot of meth heads, ex-meth head and a lot of druggies in the mix of people who are employed through those temp places.
I just don`t want those kind of people in my house, but I can`t move the heavy stuff up and down stairs any more. We have never had a problem, but those people still bother me.

When we had our roof replaced 4 years ago I would be willing to bet that half of the crew were felons. I gleaned this information by talking to some of the them and listening to them talk.

Haha...glad I’m not the only one. She doesn’t hire temp people, she just gives them free reign of the place. If I’m around, I’ll escort them, and talk to them while they work. Most don’t seem to mind, and generally I learn something new, so they don’t have to come out again. Those that are bothered...to bad!
