I just, for the first time, heard of this company. They make some pretty neat looking 1911s. What kind of repuatation do they have? What's the price range?

These guns belong to the higher end or high priced guns. You can easily get them by shelling out more than a $ 1,000. They can customize the guns to your specs and most of the guns will give you a long waiting period. Competitors like this guns and the performance is superb.

They are used EXTENSIVELY in IPSC/USPSA competition, and have a reputation as one of the "gotta have to win" makers of high end M1911 type pistols.

SVI guns feature major innovations,

such as the patented /slide release spring housing being part of the frame, instead of pressed on; machined frames (single-stacks) instead of cast; a patented barrel bushing; a patented manual safety; a patented magwell design; and a patented interchangeable breechface system.

They also have a unique treatment for the Schuemann barrels, and offer about 6 pages of options on the Gun Builder program part of the website.

Cheap? Hardly. Waiting list? Count on it. Top quality? All the way. I own two; one race gun and one single-stack.

How do they compare to STI guns? They look very similar. I believe one of the companies is an offshoot of the other, which was first?

They all started as Chip McCormick (circa early '90's). Then STI, then it splits to STI and SVI. They use the same mold for their frames. I prefer SVI myself.

Don't forget TRI between CMC and STI....

:D love the acronyms
