I mounted a new Streamlight TLR-1 on the rails of my Sig 226 9mm some weeks ago. I finally got the Sig to the range today. I had forgotten that this was an untested mount. About 30 rounds into the session I felt the Streamlight launch. Sure enough it was lying a few feet dead ahead of me on the concrete floor of the indoor range.

Upon retrieval I found two very substantial cracks forming a "v" on the lens. But, the light worked (Luxeon LEDs are tough!).

The Streamlight is a decent tactical light for the money, but it is no Sure Fire. The moral is check your mount early and often during range sessions. Or better yet--take the light off for the duration.

First off, did you tighten it down properly?

Well, I thought so. There is always a fine line between what is enough and what is too much.

That said, I don't think the design of this Streamlight is ideal. The SureFire set up is better--it should be for the very substantial cost differential. I believe that with due care the Streamlight is adequate for mounting on a homeowners self-defense pistol. For military and law enforcement use I'd go with SureFire

And what would you base the streamlight design as being less than ideal off of?

Perhaps it is not the light and it is the rail specs?

Also, did you read the manual? You may want to tighten it down by hand first, then use a coin to tighten it down fully.

Apparently you bought the wrong gun for your TLR-1 :D mine works fine on my G23/G21:neener: I don't notice any finishing wear either :uhoh:

After I read this, I went to the range and tried mine with my Glock 34. Shot about 150 rds of mild, then GD +p, no problems, and still as tight as before.

Several hundred rounds through this set up without any loosening
I would and do use mine on duty.
