Strelok in it's various forms is a Ballistic Calculator for mobile (Android and iOS) devices. It's a very capable program for a reasonable price (a free version existed too). But alas it has fallen victim to the Ukrainian Russian war. The developer of Strelok is a Russian citizen and the United States State Department has decided to sanction the creator (along with other Russian developers no doubt).

I think this might be a good time to try Applied Ballistics unfortunately that is a bit pricier.

If you have Strelok installed on your device go in and make sure it is set to not update or not remove privilege's if you don't use it for too long. If you do this you can continue using it as long as you don't upgrade devices.

That is the nice thing about Apple IOS, I can chose whether or not to update apps.

This has been discussed on Sniper Hide for a couple of weeks now.

I can't find how to do this on androids. I have the free version.

We expect it will be back sooner or later, but the fact it was determined that Russian Snipers were using StrelokPro, and naturally, Igor is Russian, the US levied sanctions against Igor himself, and Apple bangs the wokeness drum, so they subsequently cut the app from the store, as if it represents supporting terrorism…

Go to setting, then Apps, find Strelok in the list and select it. Scroll down to where is says "Pause app activity if unused" make sure this options is turned off. Since it was removed from the Google Store auto update should no longer matter but if the app is unused for a few weeks Android will remove its permission and delete temporary data and if it not in the store it will not let you give the permissions back when you go to use it again.

Well that sucks. Just updated it a few days ago. On a good note Everything I have on the app covers all I use to shoot.

While most of your posts are pretty insightful, I think in this case it’s more likely that the US imposed sanctions on Igor and his app and forced Apple to remove it. It’s probably less to do with terror and more to do with ITAR

I don’t have the inside scoop, but it seems not all platforms have been so forced. I would have thought whatever agency enforced the sanctions and coerced Apple to remove it would be aware of other platform shops as well.

The reference to terror isn’t an implication that the sanction is identifying Igor as a terrorist, but rather, they’re classing him and StrelokPro into the same bucket, as if indirect use of sold product is direct participation in the Russian War.

I don't think ITAR comes into play here since that controls stuff leaving the US not coming into the US. Igor is a Russian citizen and developed the program in Russia. We may want to make it ITAR but its not a product of the US and so we have no direct control over its distribution except in the US. That does not fall under ITAR (lots of things that don't fall under ITAR get controlled or attempted to be control by ITAR, remember the "This T-shirt is a munition" joke when they printer machine readable computer code on a T-shirt and sold it despite ITAR attempt to restrict that particular encryption routine).

As nice as Strelok is it nothing that has not been replicated many time over going back decades. Their is nothing revolutionary in his program he has just take establish ballistics and put a really nice interface to it and supports it well. I think this is mostly about target anything that might benefit the Russian politic and in this case the efforts to hurt the Russian leadership has smashed a couple little guys in the process. Not a great way to win the hearts and minds of the Russian people (if but only in a very small way).

When you get it a new phone you still lose it, not sure if you lose it when you update the IOS. But I know from experience changing phones makes the old removed apps quit working.

That maybe true with Android phones, I don't know sine I haven't used an Android phone since 2014. I do now that apps still work just fine when upgrading from one iPhone to another iPhone. I recently upgrade from a iPhone X to a iPhone 14 and did not loose any of my apps and all of them from the iPhone X worked just fine on the iPhone 14. The only time IOS apps stop working is if there is a major change when going from one version of IOS to a newer version of IOS.

It’s more a matter of having spent hours on hours, week after week, using the interface for years and years, and then being forced to change, over something so silly.

AB Mobile and Hornady 4DoF work fine, but the interface, input requirements, and HMI/UI are different. So shifting UI, even to get the same info, isn’t without some frustration.

I have had a different experience, maybe it depends on the app. Hopefully this one will continue to work.

I have too when I switched from a iPhone 6 to the iPhone X. But that was due to a greater difference in the IOS itself. I did not have any issues with all of my apps when switching from the iPhone X to the iPhone 14. I did have the iPhone X updated to the most recent version of IOS prior to switching to the iPhone 14. IIRC the IOS version was the same on both phones at the time I upgraded.

I always wished there was a standard format for digitally representing a reticle.
Because that's what makes Strelok -- the massive database of commercial rounds, and the massive database of scope reticles.

99% of scopes / reticles could be represented with a pretty simple yaml-formatted list of line widths, line patterns, dot patterns, and angular values, with basic scope parameters included. Svg support for the goofiest reticles. Keep it open on a github, let people / companies contribute a couple at a time.
