Read from this article:

Americans affiliated with a foreign terrorist group would be stripped of their U.S. citizenship under bipartisan legislation introduced by Senator Joseph Lieberman.

“Those who join such groups join our enemy and should be deprived of the rights and privileges of U.S. citizenship,” Lieberman said at a Washington news conference today.

The proposal would broaden the existing law to include joining or working with extremist groups designated by the State Department as foreign terrorist organizations. Citizens would have the right to appeal.

In the House, Republican Charlie Dent and Democrat Jason Altmire, both of Pennsylvania, are proposing similar legislation.

If then can do this for suspected terrorists, how long before gun owners and Tea Partiers are listed as enemies and stripped of their rights? That means rights to jury trial, search warrants, arms, freedom of speech and association, all of it. We could be on the verge of a complete takeover of civil government.

I was just logging on to post a thread about a variation of this subject, based on the premise that they will now seek to enact legislation that will deny firearms ownership to people who are placed on a terrorist watch list. Given that there seems to be no publicly available information that addresses what criteria determines membership on this list, I feel that this is at least a bit troubling. Simply put, no one wants terrorists to have guns, but we need to provide people with some sense of due process before we deny them their constitutional rights! To me this applies primarily to U.S. citizens; if a foreign national is on the watch list, then I don't really see any reason why we should feel obligated to provide them with entry into this country, or allow them to buy firearms.

Joe Lieberman needs to have his citizenship revoked. Then he needs to get waterboarded. After that, drop him through the hole at the bottom of the universe.

Joe Lieberman doesn't ever hesitate to wipe his bum with the Bill of Rights, because he knows he will never be on the receiving end of his transgressions.

Divemedic: Mayor Bloomberg and Rahm Emanuel are already out there seeking this, See Bloomberg, Emanuel. Given that Ted Kennedy of all people was put on the terrorist no fly list I think it is fair to say that anyone can be added and a court would most likely strike it down. However, it scares the bejesus out of me that politicians actually think they can get away with it.

Well I think Teabaggers should be stripped of their rights - they are seditionists calling for the overthrow of the government, armed insurrection, open rebellion, etc. Where I come from, we call people like that "traitors."

So what you're trying to say is that where you come from George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry et al. would thus be called traitors.

Interesting perspective, thanks for sharing.

Who exactly is it that's doing this? You must get a different news channel than me.

Personally, I think they should be shot!

I want to keep this strictly in the realm of sedition, and why they should have their rights stripped WITHOUT TRIAL, and firmly stay out of the politics, but where did you get this idea?

Which Tea Party rally called for the overthrow of the government? I am not a Tea Party person, but so far they appear to be peacefully addressing their government for a redress of grievances, and I have seen no signs of violence. Even if there HAD been violence, or talk of overthrow, since when do we strip citizens of their rights without trial?
Personally, I think they should be shot!

Really? Presumption of innocence, trial by jury, all those COTUS protected rights be damned?

Liberman and others in Washington are talking about stripping natuarlized citizens of the American citizenship, expecially in light of the "nonbomber" story. If this is the only situation of stripping a citizen of their citizenship then I have no problem with it.

Personally I think those natuarlized citizens who commit two or more felonies, any violent crime, or associates with known terrorist organizations should be deported after serving their prison sentance, along with their immediate family members not born American citizens.

Poly ticks is not an appropriate subject for THR, and most of the names I see in this thread know better.
