I bought myself a nice Mossberg 930 last spring with a 28" barrel, and ordered a turkey barrel from Mossberg right away, which was installed and used as intended. Today I hit the field for the dove opener after switching back to the longer barrel, Darn gun wouldn't cycle at all, so I got my backup Ithaca 37 out of the truck and got back in the fight with it. All day I puzzled on why the 930 was acting stupid. Turns out the shooter was at fault, because he (I) neglected to pull the piston out of the barrel yoke on the turkey barrel and install it in the longer barrel last night (I did remember to do so when I put the turkey barrel on last spring). So, the solution (since I demonstrated my inability to remember) is to order another piston ($36) to put in the other barrel to mitigate a repeat performance of such rookie ineptitude.

Bummer on not being able to use the new gun. But good job on figuring out what was wrong and a solution to keep it from happening again.

Stuff like that is frustrating, but we all do it from time to time. So it was cool of you to post this to help others!

I like to consider what you did absent minded. Some would call it stupid but I won't because I'm like that in spades. My son is exactly like me in that regard which makes me feel bad. I once had a huge sales call scheduled with USAA Insurance and couldn't find my car keys. I looked for 30 minutes and couldn't find them. Was freaking out and picked up the phone to call them and make up some excuse why I couldn't make it the appointment. Which was when I noticed the keys were in my left hand as I started to dial the number.

That's as good as my looking everywhere for my glasses...when they're sitting on the top of my head the whole time! To keep this firearms related I was going to the range and I couldn't find one of the handguns I wanted to take. Looked everywhere: safe, range bag, ammo bag; nowhere to be found. Finally found it right in plain sight out on my reloading bench. Seems I had taken it out a little while before to give it a once over before heading to the range!

FYI- went back out today and knocked a few down. That gun sure does shoot good when all the parts are in it!

Sounds like my Dad; when he was on his Browning A5 kick, he'd always have the frictions rings wrong. I bought him a full spare set and threw them in his ammo box...:p
Good choice for a backup gun, also!
