Man guilty of impersonating police officer

A 70-year-old China Grove man has been been found guilty of impersonating a police officer.
John Alexander Troutman, 70, of 111 Rutledge St. was found guilty of the misdemeanor in Rowan District Court on Wednesday.
Judge Beth Dixon delayed sentencing until Dec. 16, instructing officers to resolve the issue of Troutman's permit to carry a concealed weapon.
China Grove Police Officer P.E. Carpenter testified that Troutman used a 1996 white Ford Crown Victoria to block the road on a delivery truck on March 27.
Carpenter said Troutman approached the vehicle and displayed a badge and then tried to pry open the door.
Police found handcuffs and similar items in his vehicle, which they described as resembling a police cruiser complete with numerous antennas.
Troutman still faces a felony count of intimidating a state's witness.
Police say that when the case of impersonating an officer was being heard in August, Troutman approached a witness and said, "You are dead."
Troutman was subsequently indicted by a Rowan County Grand Jury on the intimidation charge.
China Grove Police Chief Dennis Andrade said officers will file paperwork with Sheriff George Wilhelm to get the concealed weapon permit revoked.
