The other night I was driving my girlfriend and myself home after a long day at work. We decided to stop and get some fast food on the way home so we wouldn't have to cook. After getting the food I took the back way home because the normal route was full of rush hour drivers. After turning onto a side road not often used a car came up behind me with its bright lights on and tailing me. It did this until we came to the next stop sign. When I came to a stop (one car in front of me) I heard someone yelling "HEY!, HEY!" behind me. I rolled up to the stop sign and the car pulled up right next to me. The passenger had his window down and repeated, "HEY!" I rolled my window with my left hand, and grasped my Springfield 1911 with my right hand. I looked at the passenger and said, "What?!" When I said that they drove off laughing. I had a look at everyone in the car right before they drove off. Just a group of stupid kids driving around at night. I was really steamed over their stupidity. :cuss:

I believe that I responded in the correct manner for the given situation. I think that it's really stupid to confront other drivers in that manner, especially where I live because most people have a gun in the car. What do you guys think? Any suggestions/imput or related experiences?

Stupid kids, and if they pull up next to the wrong car, they will learn the price of being stupid. You responded in the right way, but seriously, if you had been a drug dealer, gang banger, or other criminally minded type, those kids could have been in for a bad time.

you did right, glad they didnt have a BB gun and do something real foolish.
Kids have a history of not thinking of what can happen

I certainly did not yell at cars with unknown people in it. I lived out in the country and would be lucky to run into someone who was not part of the neighborhood. I shot gophers for fun and went hiking in the woods. My parents would have slapped me seven ways to Sunday if they heard I was yelling at other cars for no reason. I was what you would call one of the "straight and narrow kids." Now look at me, still straight but not quite as narrow. :neener:

We used to drive around and spray people with fire extinguishers, no one shot us.

Yeah, doing that is insane. But then thats what kids do...You want to make reality TV and make tons of money? Videotape a bunch of kids driving around for a few months, you'll have over 100 episodes some Real TV type channel will air and people will love it.

First, let me be clear in that I am not saying that you made a mistake per se; as one must be aware of every detail of the intersection, road and any other traffic around in order to analyse and act. But unless there was a particular reason not to, I would not have allowed the other car to pull along side me if possible - by pulling away as they attempted to do so.

So when they pulled up next to you you would have accelerated. Then if they sped up to match your speed you would have accelerated more. Yep, that's drag racing.:p

Sounds like you were as prepared as reasonably possible under the circumstances - your gun was ready, but you didn't show it . . . you didn't escalate, and they drove off none the wiser. No cops, no injury to anyone - overall good outcome.

If they keep acting stupidly, one day those stupid kids will run into someone who's equally stupid (or maybe someone who's the surviving target of a prior random drive-by) and then something bad will happen.

In L.A. (I think) a number of years ago a bunch of kids were shooting
people with Paint Ball Guns. They Video taped the whole thing. They thought
it was "harmless fun" until some returned fire with REAL Lead.

In New York in the mid 80's some kids were using High pressured water guns
(meaning the spray went 20 or 30 feet) and someone returned fire with real
guns. In either case I done think anything was hurt except the vehicle.

In Michigan, some kids wanted to cause problems for another group of kids,
so the first group sent a 6 year old over to the second group to kick them in
the shins. When the second group got the 6 year old to leave the first group
came over "Defend" the 6 year old. The first group thought it was "harmless"
to cause a fight....until the someone in the second group pulled a gun.

This action started a true riot. We had Oakland County Shreiff, Farmington &
Farmington Hill Cops, Michigan State Police, Bloomfield and West Bloomfield
police to the tune of about 40 cars of cops all in the name of fun.

Screwing around with people you don't know in the name of "Harmless Fun"
can and will get you shot now a days.

I was driving a green 95' Ford Explorer and it looks like they had mom's car Chrystler sedan or something equivalent. I had a close eye on them the whole way until we came to the stop sign. I was keeping an eye on the intersecting road so I could go as soon as possible. That's when they pulled up next to me and did their thing.

Actually, anyone that pulls up behind shouting anything at me gets my full attention. The second they begin to pull out and come alongside I would be moving slowly. If it were possible, and no particular reason not to I might make a left turn. Or, an alternative, I might even reverse straight placing them in front of me. It really depends on the exact circumstance and road etc.

Speed is not necessarily an ingredient, but allowing someone to pull alongside as described is a bit risky. You might look over straight into the barrel of a gun - or guns. Now you are a static target and must react from scratch as it were.

Some people might not like it, others may quiver at the thought of facing a judge; but in the circumstances described I would take one or another evasive act or acts. If the other vehicle persisted in these actions I would begin to suffer the rational fears of any reasonable and prudent person, and might produce a firearm or take some other more positive steps. But I would not let young punks, gangbanger or other thug intimidate me into not keeping a position of advantage making me a sitting duck.

You can call that what you like.

I'm really starting to hate kids\yound adults these days. Where I live, at least at night, there are ALOT of wingnuts cruising around. Winter keeps some indoors, but summer can suck bigtime. They tailgate with brights on, drive like morons, etc, etc. I've had one idiot ride my tailgate so close I could barely even see the roof of his car, he did this for about 5 miles for no good reason. When they finally gave up, they passed and it was occupied by 4 kids that apparently found the whole thing real funny.
I did have a car pull along side me one time and try to egg my truck, I had watched them in my rearview and when I came the red light (empty road, late at night) I saw they cut around and one guy was hanging out the window. I threw it in reverse as I drew my G17. The eggs missed by inches as I backed up. They took off, and I went home. I'd hate to see a bunch of kids get gunned down for nothing after being stupid in the wrong place\wrong time.

It's better to be judged by six then heckled by four.

Oh wait.....

That's not quite right......

Kids these days.:cuss: I was never like that when I was a kid (3 years ago).

Last night a friend told me that a similar thing happened to him one time when he was going jack rabbit hunting with a group of friends at night. A jacked up pickup came right up on them with brights on and horn blaring (this is out in the middle of nowhere), pulled up next to them like they were going to pass and hurled a beer bottle toward the front windshield. :what: My friend (not thinking correctly) pulled out his desert eagle and let five rounds fly right over their cab. :uhoh: The truck took off and hid since it was only one road in and out of town. When my friend's car passed the truck was deep in the bushes trying to get away. They never saw that truck again.

It was in the UK.

They doubtless will be "read off" and "cautioned" and little if anything else.

FWIW

Wow that video was incredibly stupid. Do you know what country that was in? I would imagine that their laws aren't as lenient as the U.S.
