I know this is stupid and really i already know the answer to it ,but, with over 20,000 gun laws on the books here in the good ole USofA do any of them ,by theirself or even connected with others, keep criminals from getting a gun? Does anyone know of a gun law that does make sense?

Does anyone know of a law that does make sense?

Sure, the one that says "... the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Too bad we don't use that one anymore.

We've got the President of the US arguing in court over what the meaning of the word "is" is, and you expect gun laws to make sense?

Laws by themselves don't prevent anything from happening.

There are a few I agree with, such as restrictions on felons and instant background checks to help enforce the restrictions on felons.

Not that a determined crook is going to go to a dealer, but it does ensure that a reputable dealer won't knowingly supply a criminal with a gun.
Obviously the laws that punish dishonest dealers are a good thing too.

after that, there aren't many I can think of that actually do anything or provide any sort of deterrent.

I do not believe we should have any "gun laws." I think even felons should be allowed to keep and bear arms.

But having said that, we should not be saying, "Gun laws don't prevent crimes" when we make our arguments against gun control. The purpose of a law is not to prevent a crime from taking place; no law can do that. The purpose of a law is to impose justice on the guilty.
