Well I just purchased and AR-180B from some one here on THR. It's a great rifle expect for one thing, the rear sling attachment point is on the butt of the pistol grip. Now having learned to shoot a rifle with sling pulled taut around the body by wrapping it up with the front hand, having no sling or a sling I can't do that with is driving me nuts.

I'm looking for a sling that will if nothing else let me carry the rifle and shoot it without having to completely take the sling off (since the stock sling is way to short to have around ones body and shoulder the weapon). A single point or tac sling would be fine too if it'd fit and work. I know there are the slings that fit over the butt of the rifle with a little basket type arrangement, but I want to be able to access the butt comparment without taking my sling off.

So any suggestions?

Thanks in advanced,

Do you really? Why?

Just ignore that want and get the sling that fits around the butt.

Check out the Viking Tactics quick adjust sling. They have a universal butt stock adaptor for it but you won't need it. You can secure the sling around the butt stock threading it through your rear sling swivel to keep it in place.
In this configuration you can carry the rifle cross-body and you can wrap up to shoot from a steadier position.

I used my AR180B in a tactical rifle class last year with a single-point sling from www.tacticaltailor.com - the attachment just hitches around the small of the buttstock and connects to the main sling with a Fastex buckle, and it worked perfectly for me. It's the Urban Ops Single Point Sling, $22.50.

I also got a cheapo sling from www.cdnninvestments.com for $3.99(#UNC22310), but any inexpensive carry-strap in your local gun store's used/discount/miscellaneous bin should also do OK. I find it actually works pretty well for "African-style" shoulder carry and hasty-sling shooting. I went to a local hiking/climbing supply store and got a couple of cheap plastic replacement snap-hooks for luggage shoulder-straps, and used them to attach the sling to the swivels for quick-detach capability. I find that if you hook the wide, padded end to the pistol-grip, and give the sling a half-twist before attaching the other end to the forward swivel, you can loop up almost as well as you can with a CW-style sling - with the sling-end attached to the pistol-grip instead of the buttstock, the sling tends to wrap around your upper arm better when you assume the hasty sling. Jeff Cooper's To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth has an article describing the CW sling fully.
