Hi All,
Could someone recommend an option for fixing the sling on my shotgun which really really pokes me in the shoulder blade? Everything I've been able to find shows the sling stud on the lower part of the butt. Mine is a 870 with Hogue stock (like to top right photo here: http://www.getgrip.com/main/overview/shotgun.html)

the front is attached by a slot/side mount similar to this: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=...-TECHNOLOGIES-REMINGTON-LEFT-SIDE-SLING-MOUNT

It is supposed to lay flat on my body, but I find the butt is twisted to an uncomfortable angle and just won't stay on my shoulder and/or really pokes me. I'm ready to get another sling stud and just drill a new hole in the left side of the stock. I guess the sling is quick release, I'm not sure exactly what it is since it was a gift. It seems silly to have to drill for a new stud since there's one right there, but since the quick release part is then 90 degrees shotgun's length, it just isn't working. I like the sling, it adjusts quickly though.

Suggestions? Thanks in advance

I'd lose the side sling mount plate and drill the stock for a sling swivel stud just like the ones in the Hogue picture you linked.

Those plates were intended to hang a shotgun in front of you in the ready position.
Like for SWAT entry teams and such.

Thanks, that makes some sense. I got it out of my safe after work and the side sling mount is "Wilson Tactical". I didn't see any markings on the sling it came with, but I'm pretty sure the guy who I got it from had a tactical style sling. It's got a tube extender or something he said I couldn't probably take hunting, but I haven't even shot a thing in the last couple of years. I was just hoping to figure out if I needed to get something different because there's a gun show this weekend in Kansas City I was going to try to go to. I have a couple of photos, hopefully they'll post here.

rcmodel is correct; both sling attachment points should be on the same side. In your case, the sling mount behind the extension is side-left and the rear, buttstock attachment, is mounted on the bottom. This will tend to twist the sling.

I actually prefer to side-mount my slings, so they both are on the left side (I am right handed). You could also try installing a sling plate between the receiver and stock and see if you prefer that, in conjunction with the front sling mount. This is what you would need. http://shopwilsoncombat.com/Burnsed-Loop-Right-Hand-Rem-870/productinfo/SGBL/

Also, you have a three-point sling on your gun which, IMO, is the worst type for a pump gun. Get yourself a good two-point sling.
