I know you guys probably get sick of people asking for help with ccw questions but im pretty new to pistols and any help would be appreciated..Last week i took an NRA class and now im considering down the road getting my ccw.It is going to take me a while to save some money up for my next gun.But maybe anyone could suggest something..

IM looking for a 9mm that is small and would be able to shoot Hydra-shock rounds without any problems. If it was under 500 dollars that would be great too..I have a ruger .45 now and its way to big to carry.Im not sure if i want an external safety on the gun.Probably not if my life is going to be depended on it.But please list anything you think i should research..Thanks

I am

have had a Kahr p9 covert, a Kahr mk9, a Titanium Taurus, and a Kimber ultra carry .40s&w. I recently bought my second Glock 26. Best all around 9mm ccw(imo). I had one before ands traded it to downsize. Bad move. Kahr are a little smaller but no way are they as reliable. Went back to the 26 and I'll never look back again.

How small, compact or sub-compact would be
helpful in our decision? When armed with a 9m/m,
I prefer the compact size of a SIG-SAUER
P228. With one "up the pipe" and two high cap
magazines; that gives me a total of 27 rounds,
available if needed!

But, under $500; well thats a different story! :( :uhoh:
In most locales, a P228 NIB will run between $599
and $700.

Go get a Makarov and carry that while you save up for the gun you really want.

For a compact I'm looking at the CZ PCR and for a sub-compact the RAMI. PCRs can be had used a very reasonable prices. New RAMI shouldn't run over $500 unless your dealer hates you. Availability on the 9mm RAMI is spotty right now but they're comming. 10+1 DA/SA or C&L carry. Can take 15 round CZ 75 magazines. and 13 round CZ 75 compact magazines as well as the flush-fitting 10 rounders.

Glocks are a solid option. I was seriously considering a G27 until I handled the RAMI (which I'm going to get in .40 S&W). It just pointed and felt better for me.

CZForum.com is a good source for info from people who currently carry these guns and I'm sure PCRCCW will pipe up in a bit ;)

A definition of "small" from your perspective would help. Small enough to conceal in a good IWB holster under a T-shirt or untucked polo? Then we're talking up to Glock 19 size. Small enough to realistically conceal in a pocket? Then we're talking Kahr PM9. Small enough to carry in a belly bag? Then the sky's the limit.

How important is weight to you in carrying? If you don't mind a heavy gun, steel frame guns are easier to shoot than polymer or alloy, generally speaking. My PM9 loaded with +P+ 127 grain ammo recoils significantly more than my P226R with the same ammo, but is a heck of a lot more pleasant to shoot than my airweight snubbie with .38+P ammo.

Do you have a prefered action type? Is there any action type you wouldn't consider?

What's you no BS top dollar price you can reasonably afford to pay?

If you can answer these questions, we can give you more focused advice.

Thanks!

Kevin

Am I that predictable??????? :scrutiny:

CZ PCR......perfect primary CCW IMO :D
CZ Rami.....fits in my pocket and is typical of CZ's......NICE!
CZ PO1......not my fav. CCW but works well for ALOT of people.

Kahr p/pm/k/e..........9 series. K9 is my favorite Kahr...
S&W 3913, 6906, CS9
Firestorm/Bersa mini thunder 9mm.....nice gun for the money.
Daewoo........9mm fullsize and compact (the fullsize is small)...ditto.

CZ's are great, Kahrs are great, Glocks are Glocks..........take your pick.

shoot well.................

I should have said how small..Im thinking pocket carry .My frame size wont go well with IWB.I really coundnt spend over 500..thanks guys..as always

Kahr PM9 is small. I don't own one but from what I've read, most people like their's. I don't know if you can buy a new one for under $500. The Kel Tec P-11 is small. A new one is $250 or less. I personally don't like them because it seems too many of them are not reliable out of the box.

Like you I'm just getting into CCW. (Expect to get my permit any day now, since I applied about 5 weeks ago.) I have a CZ 75B, but wanted a very lightweight smallish gun to carry on my bike, and to conceal well. I just bought a used, recently manufactured (within the last year) Kahr P9 on Gunbroker for $395. All polymer and stainless. My main objection to the Springfield XD is that I've heard it rusts, and I produce a lot of sweat on the bike in the summer.
