Okay let me start by saying that I'm not sure if this is the right section for a post like this, but it seemed like the most appropriate. If it needs to be moved I am sorry  So after a few weeks of overtime at work I have some extra cash laying around for another firearm. Such an expensive hobby. I currently own an lwrc ar15, glock 19, ruger lcp, and Mosin Nagant. I am currently thinking a full sized handgun would be the most fitting addition and I'm looking for suggestions in the 500-700 dollar price range. Must be reliable and accurate. Would be a range gun that would be occasionally carried in the winter. Help me out. Thanks :D

A number of good choices exist that meet your price and and criteria .

1911 Pattern 45
Sig Sauer M220 in 45
Beretta Model 92 9MM (40S&W available)

Revolvers also ?

S&W M686 357 mag
Ruger GP100 357 mag

And a bunch of others to follow by posters who have their favorites
to tell you about.

You don't have a good .22 pistol. Since you are concerned about the cost of your hobby, a nice rimfire is the way to go.

$500+ will get you a pretty good one.

If you're interested in .45 ACP, I'd second the suggestions of a quality 1911 or a SIG P220. You can find the P220 within your budget, if you look at used firearms. Bud's has a used P220 in excellent condition for $629; free shipping (Yes, I am a link to it).

A 1911 might be more appealing to you, but with a $700 budget, I wouldn't be throwing money into that ring. That's my opinion, of course, and many would (and probably will) disagree.

Frankly, based on the guns you listed as owning currently, I'd say a shotgun would be a much wiser investment, and you can afford a quality pump and hundreds of shells while staying far under the lower limit of your budget. IMHO, you already own a gun perfectly suited to cold-weather carry, in the G19.

Thank for the suggestions so far. As much as I love the grip trigger and history with 1911s I just feel like the low capacity is a big negative in 2012 with crazies shooting up movie theaters and such. Coward. Anyway, as for the shotgun I feel like my ar15 fills that role for a hd long gun and with a surefire light and eotech I think is very versatile, although I am open to hearing the shotgun's argument over a carbine for hd. I love sigs, particularly the p226. Would it be possible to conceal carry in winter clothes? I am 5'10" 170

As for the .22 I am going to get around to picking one up one of these days after I get all the big boy guns I want. Most likely the ruger sr22

You already have a Glock 19.. is the magazine capacity of that gun not high enough? I don't think I'll be basing any new gun purchases on this one incident. The "other side" is getting hyped up enough; no point in us doing it, too.

Would be a range gun that would be occasionally carried in the winter.

What is your "rest-of-the-year" gun? In winter clothes in some other parts of the country, you can carry a bazooka. It's summer clothes that begin to impart restrictions on what you can easily conceal. You're in Florida; if you're in the southern half (like I am), winter isn't much of an issue. I love the week or so of winter we get each year because it lets me conceal easily more of my available choices.

The P220 in .45 has a seven-round magazine, the same as (or one less than) many 1911 pistols.
Maybe if you're looking for a more-compact carry piece that can still be enjoyed at the range some, perhaps the S&W M&P Shield, or the SIG P2022 would fit your needs. The Ruger SR9 or SR9C (or one in .40) is a good candidate in that category, too. I'm just not real clear on what it is exactly you are looking for.

Glock 20 or 21. Or if you decide you want more powah how about a revolver in .44 mag or similar? A used Model 29 or a Blackhawk is big fun at the range.

The three guns that I think everybody should own are....
1. .22 semi auto rifle (ruger 10-22, Marlin 60). Cheap ammo, easy to practice shooting fundamentals, useful for hunting small game.
2. 12g pump action shotgun (Remmington 870, Mossberg 500) Cheap ammo, fun to shoot flying targets, home defense, hunting birds and medium game.
3. .357 magnum revolver (Examples too numerous to list) Common ammo, fun and reliable to shoot, concealed personal protection, hunting.

Think about why you want another gun and what will be its purpose. And, please, avoid terms like "big boy gun". It makes you seem like you lack the seriousness and maturity to be in charge of a firearm. After all, every firearm is a lethal weapon and should be treated as such.

If you have a place where you could shoot it (most ranges don't allow rapid fire), spend $300 and buy a Slide Fire stock for the AR. Use the left over $200 to buy ammo and go out and have a ball.

I recently purchased the Remington R1 Enhanced. Only shot 200 rounds through her so far but she's proving to be a very good purchase.

Another really fun gun that some folks will dismiss as having no purpose is the Kel-Tech Sub 2000. I have one in .40 S&W that I picked up used for $200 and put a $125 Crimson Trace laser sight on. I bought several of the 32 round Glock mags and it's a hoot to shoot. It'd make a good HD gun as it's short and manuverable and nearly everyone can shoot it more accurately than a pistol.

I've been trying to decide on a new pistol in .40 S&W. Torn between the S&W M&P and the Beretta PX4 Storm. It's not easy making these kind of decisions.

A 1911 or a .357 mag revolver.

When you try the single action trigger on that 1911, you'll understand.
And the 357 mag is a pretty tough round.

im thinking for now ill spend the money on a weaponlight for the glock 19 and some more ammo for the guns i already own. then either a glock 21 or s&w 686. thanks for the suggestions everyone
