Hey there y'all!

I'm looking for a powerful light that I can mount on an AR-style platform that'll put out a (relatively focused) beam at least 100 yards and, preferably, out to 150-200. Ideally it would be a red light or have a red filter/cover.

I've been tasked with reducing the predator and feral hog population on a 12,000 acre South Texas ranch I work for. Since I will be doing a lot of night hunting (Yes, it's LEGAL in Texas!) by myself I need a light that I can bring to bear at the same time as I'm getting 'on target.' So, I'm looking for something like one of the tactical lights typically mounted on AR-style rifles, but a larger version that will cast a decent beam. I'm not expecting a Q-beam quality/strength light with 15,000,000 candle power- I just need something that'll give me the shot once I get them within 150 yards on a dark night. If I can find one that'll give me MORE range, that'd be great.

I looked at the Primos "NightBlaster" but I've tried those scope-mounted lights before and they have been REALLY fragile and not terribly dependable. They have a plastic housing that feels flimsy and cheap. I'm looking for a more solid light that I can mount securely to the hanguard 'rail' on an AR.

Any suggestions I can get from people that have a solution, would SURE be appreciated!

Nick

SouthTX, I don't think you'll get a red lens that will let you see far enough. I use a Surefire, but there are other brands with just as much light. Call if you need some help. This is what I use for night pig hunts, 325 gr. .50 Beowulf loads rolls them right over.

Get a LED with at least 250 Lumen, I have a Fenix P3D with a Cree Q5 215 Lumen that I can easily shoot 100+ yards with and see even farther so if you get with 250 Lumen, you should be good to go

Honestly, I've used a Nightblaster with great results. They sight well, are dependable, and shoot a bright beam. I picked one up off of ebay for around $70 and have used it in a field that allowed 400 yd shots to nab several coyotes. If it doesn't work, maybe cycle the battery, check he mount, and replace the filter? Through my scope (Bushnell Dusk and Dawn) the red is ore than sufficient.

Maybe this would work?
