Where they tell me to go
I really like this shotgun. However, am wondering if there are other options out there for what I'm looking to find.

I want a short barrel pump with screw in chokes in a reasonably light gun.

Purpose is for small game hunting mostly but want it to function for HD if I need it. Getting away from the unfired tacticool shotgun that sits in the house now.

How are the BPS guns overall? Made in Japan or where now?

Thanks in advance for any input!

I have a BPS that is about a year old now. Yes it was made in Japan. The fit and finish is excellent and better than my 870 or 1300's. The receiver is steel rather than aluminum alloy like my 1300's. Loading is a bit different than any side ejector. My BPS action has slicked up nicely since becoming mine. I have run probably 500-600 shells through it. Whether it fits your needs or not is a preference question. There is nothing wrong with the BPS design or quality that I know about. It has been around a long time.

The BPS Upland is about the only gun left in its niche.

Its well-made and balances well. I'd get it and be done with it, if you like it.

AB,
I'm leaning hard that way. I hadn't found anything else in that style but wanted to be sure I hadn't missed an option.

Didn't Remington make an 870 in that style for a while? I've looked for one with no luck.

Thanks.

The Special Field 870 was made for a decades or so. Hard to find used ones for sale.

Maybe a 20 gauge Youth model?

Either a used 870 Upland or the BPS are it I think. If you like the bottom loader grab a BPS before they quit making them too. My buddy shoots one and it has been pretty bulletproof. I don't think it is a bit better than an 870, but that doesn't mean there is a thing wrong with it by any means, just different in design.

Oh, Remington definitely made some kind of upland gun or another no more than five or six years ago--I remember seeing it on their website, and I only got into guns starting around 2003.

The BPS is the best pump shotgun on the market today.
You can't go wrong with this choice.

Without regard to HD, the BPS
gets sweeter and more enjoyable with every step
down in bore diameter.
The .410 will make you foresake all others.

I don't think that's quite true, but the one that's a tad better is WAY more expensive and has to be ordered.:)

What's most amazing about the BPS is the price. It's a REALLY nice gun with top-notch fit and finish, and doesn't cost that much more than an 870 Express. How do they do it? It's not like Japan is a low-cost manufacturing country or something.

Ever since the long awaited purchase I made of a BPS Upland in 20 ga, I decided I didnt need 12 gauges anymore. You either love or hate the straight grip stock. I love it. I even use it for deer hunting and mount a cantilever slug barrel on it and it points and shoots like a winchester 94.

There was also the Remington 1100 Upland but that was an auto, but it is another example of a gun like this.
