Any ideas on how to remove this gas block? I am wanting to install either the standard front sight block or one with a rail for a flip up iron sight.

That looks like the gas block on my bushmaster ORC. Compare the sides of the two pins, push the smaller side to the larger side. Usually, ejection port side to safety lever side. Before you do this you may want to make sure your muzzle device isn't pinned on though. You may have a loose gas block with no way to remove it.

It is a bushmaster ORC. I'm planning to check the flash hider this evening. The barrel is 16 inches so I don't believe that it is pinned/welded

That's a standard gas block with the sight post cut-off. Bushmaster uses them a lot. Just drive out the wedge pins as mentioned and you are GTG.

Any suggestions for a replacement? I would like just a standard front post, but my barrel diameter is .625.

I didn't realize how slim the options were for this profile...

It will have to be drilled for the pins. That is a precision aligning/fitting/drilling/reaming procedure, so I strongly suggest that you get it to someone with experience doing that job. You only get one chance to get it right. If it's not, you get to buy a new FSB at a minimum and probably a barrel, too.
The other option is one of the clamp on models, but those are usually limited to gas block only or flip up sights and are more expensive by far than the sight listed above.

Parts? About $35 plus shipping. Installation? I've seen $40 - $250 mentioned on various sites. The variation is based on a clean barrel (no sight ever installed vs installation on a barrel like yours where they weld up the old notches and recut.
You might reconsider and buy a new barrel with a sight already installed. They can be had for about the same cost as the higher install price. $50 - $75 to install. You could sell the old barrel to recoup some of the expense.

What barrel length? The sight base that I linked was an F marked base for flat top receivers.
