This place is less than 3 minutes from my house. It is what I consider one of the "creepy ranges"....

Just what we need.......

Man shoots, kills self at GB gun range

A 34-year-old man shot and killed himself Monday afternoon at a Glen Burnie shooting range, county police said.

Officers later found Todd Discenza of Edgewater had left a suicide note in his vehicle outside Select Fire, 115 Holsum Way. He shot himself with a .22-caliber handgun.

An off-duty General Services Police officer told county police he was shooting at the range just before 2:30 p.m. when he heard a "popping" and saw the man next to him collapse to the floor.

The off-duty officer and a doctor who was nearby performed CPR on Mr. Discenza, but could not revive him.

Police said employees at the range told them Mr. Discenza had never come in before, although he told them "this wasn't the first time for him shooting a gun."

Yeah my wife pointed the article out to me in the MD Gazette. Select Fire isn't one of the best ranges around but it still sucks to have something like this happen. Especially in "A gun oh my god let me go wet myself" Maryland.

Yeah, but it was his last time shooting a gun.....a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Boy, I can't wait to see the letters to the editor in Saturday's edition of the Gazette.

When I worked at Jensens' in Tucson, lane 2 had a differant carpet from the rest, as it had been cut out after a gent rented the SP101 38, and popped himslef under the chin. I was not there, but a now deceased friend was, and he was freaked out for some time. They have subsequently replaced all the carpet, but the "killer" SP101 is still on the rental side.....good shooter, too.
I'm sorry for sounding cold, but I have little time or sympathy for someone who does this, as they not only make life difficult for family, friends, and the staff and guests of the range, but they ensure national publicity negative to the whole sport/industry/lawful carriers.

Hey Clandestine, welcome to THR. As an "almost" Glen Burnie resident it's good to see more of us here.

I don't care for the treatment I received at Select Fire, but as you said, prayers to everybody.

Be sure to check THR often. We get together quite often for social and shooting events.

I guess I'll go buy a box of way overpriced ammo at Select Fire to support them.

Scott - considering we have had another thread running on this sort of deal ... this comes as just more extremely bad news. The media loves this type of stuff. :(

I am sad for all concerned .. no range needs this sorta thing and certainly RKBA is hardly helped is it.

<big sigh> ......

Spot 77, Thanks for the warm welcome. It would be nice to get together and get to know everyone during the next event. I usually go to Continental Arms to shoot because I have to qualify there too.
I know what you mean about the high ammo prices at Select Fire. The guy who runs the place "Wayne" can come across arrogant.

I believe that Select Fire seems creepy is because its poorly illuminated in the range. Ive taken some people who can hardly see the targets downrange.

lee n. field,

Select Fire comes across creepy for a couple of reasons. It may be the scrawny little kid who says that the only good gun made is a SIG and he uses it all of the time in his tactical training.

It could be the dis-satisfied veteran atmosphere that hangs over the place like a black cloud. I have always had a picture of that scene in Consiracy Theory when the JBTs raid Mel Gibson's place and he pushes "the button".........

Or it could be the old guy dressed in camo sitting at his bank of CCTV screens as the camera on every firing point and target lane records your every move. That then gives him an excuse to get off his butt and bawl you out for something....anything.....anything at all.

Only redeeming factors to the place are that they have concrete walls between each firing point and that they rent full auto. An MP5 in Maryland...heh..heh:evil:

I don't wish this on anyone...especially someone trying to make a living owning his own business. Select Fire is really close to Baltimore City and I'm sure that Wayne gets his fair share of questionable clientele so he is to be commended for serving the Northern AA County area with somewhere for people to shoot.

Besides....if Select Fire closes, that just leaves On Target and I don't want everyone coming there and keeping me from getting a lane.:neener:

An 18 year old kid did it in Manch last year about 20 minutes after I left the range. Rented a sig and put 49 down range and the last one in his head.

At an outdoor range I used to use, a woman murdered her boyfriend and then shot herself.

At leat he didnt miss.

I have no sympathy for any individual who takes his own life. Good riddance.

Be sure to say that at the funeral if it happens in your family or to a close friend.

I'm sure you will impress everyone:rolleyes:
