Summer Carry Picture Thread

Well, the title of the thread is “Summer carry,” so to me that implies that your carry might change somewhat with the seasons.
The OP's and others might, Im just saying mine normally doesnt.

OP doesn't change due to seasons, but has been prone to change.
The Glock 19 I pictured strong side IWB could just as easily be carried AIWB and I have.
I've also carried a Glock 22 or 21 AIWB, they don't work as well for me strong side.
I've carried a 1911 strong side IWB a lot:

Strong side IWB way better if I want to ride mt. bike (casual ride) AIWB is intolerable for that.
My eyes like the HD sights on the Glock, I put a set on my Glock 23 too, they getting carried now.
The Glock 19/23 strong side IWB has potential for long term.

I carry the same things, in the same place, year round. Why wouldnt you?

Your gun is a part of your daily wear, not an accessory you change out to fit what youre wearing.
Some can not conceal a full sized pistol under a light t-shirt or other summer attire whereas they can in cooler months... As long as you are competent with which ever firearm you decide to carry, I don't see the big deal...

The recent storms blew out a bunch of the heat (and my wife decided she liked my Valkyrie ... So it might not be mine any more).

So, back to my normal Sig 226 SAO carry.

The 1911s go in the same spot and with almost the same holster, also conceal about the same, just fine under a t-shirt.

During our four or five months of scorching hot weather, my LCR (38 special) goes in a DeSantis Nemesis in the cargo pocket of my shorts. Usually I also have a big Spyderco folder clipped to the hip pocket above it. Sometimes I substitute a push dagger or a nice Benchmade.

In cool fall/winter weather it's the LCPII in the breast pocket of an outer shirt, and one of my favorite portable knives.

In cold weather it's a Glock 26 OWB or CA Bulldog in a coat pocket.

If I were working on the family property, and didn't care about weight, I guess I could do my massive working Bowie knife and S&W 629. That's my favorite work knife, and there are dangerous hogs out there.

You'll have to excuse me if I seem to have no compassion here for those who say they "cant". Ive done it daily most of my life, fat, skinny and in between, and never had a problem pulling it off.

I think its more about "want" than it is "cant". Which is fine if you dont want to, do as you like. Just dont try and tell us it "cant" be done, like you often hear, because you dont "want" to do it. Especially when some of us do it all the time.

As far as competency goes, I rarely, if ever, see people practicing with their little back up guns, and even if you do, its usually not in any kind of realistic manner. Then again, I suppose "competent" has various meanings to various people, to suit their needs.

Personally, Id say if you can run any of the training courses given, and make it through with the gun you choose to carry, then youll probably be alright. But how many use something like that, as a basis for their decision?

Since winter only last three days here it is not a problem.

No kidding! If this is summer carry, I can’t imagine what these people carry in the winter. Rocket launchers? LOL

Ignore what I said above. I'm going to build a suppressed AR pistol in 300 BO for winter carry. No wait, I just need to find a Holster for the Tac13.

There used to be a couple of good options available for guns of those sizes available. I'll bet if you're serious (I know, I know :D), and get to looking, you'll still find them.

Man bags are popular amongst some folk these days, I'm sure there's a shorty AR man bag out there

You also do not have the same body type, wardrobe requirements, or have to preform the same activities that others may have to do to be qualified to tell others what is or isn't possible for them. What will or won't work for them. If you can EDC a full sized gun 365 no problem, that's great! Just don't tell me what I'm able or am not able to do. There are some fullsized guns that I can not conceal in the summer whether I'm carrying IWB, OWB, AIWB, etc, and I'm not the only one who has this problem.

What will or will not work is up to you to figure out, if you "want" to do it.

Ive carried a Colt Commander with a double reload under a dress shirt and tie, in an office environment, for about a year, with no troubles. Ive worked outside in construction carrying that same gun and a couple of others of similar size too. Been a few other situations as well, and always figured it out.

Each time figuring out how to make things work is always an adventure. But its not really at all hard to do, especially these days, with all the different options readily available.

"Cant" is a negative word, and can be very prophetic, if you allow it to be. But, by all means, do what you "want". Im just saying you dont have to be so negative and sell yourself short.

Actually I do have the TAC13 covered. The shop owner offered me a holster for it when I picked it up because he took two days longer to get it than he told me it would. One of the many reasons I patronize that shop as often as I can.

A Viet Nam vet who was a tunnel rat carried a cut down Remington 870 and later 1100. While on leave in Saigon he had a cross draw belt holster made for them. It was a thing of beauty. Wonder it he still has it after all these years.

I agree, but sometimes "can't" is the correct word to describe something. I'm sure I could probably come up with a way to carry a larger gun, but it probably wouldn't be very practical.

I have strong gun belts that have steel inserts in them, and I've tried and own every style of IWB and OWB kydex, hybrid, and leather holster both high and low ride styles. I litterally own dozens of holsters of all styles, makes and models. The only type of holsters I haven't tried were cross draw, SOB, shoulder, or those Urban Carry holsters. If all I'm wearing is a light t-shirt, I will print, and it will be obvious and noticeable. AIWB would be an option if I had a washboard stomach, but it's very uncomfortable for me to wear all day long, and even with the "claw", my gut will push the grip outwards.

Having different sized firearms is just a more practical solution for me and I assume others. I may not be able to make impressively tight little groups with them all, but I'm confident that I could get rounds on target if I had to.

T shirt and shorts weather it's AIWB SP101 357 in an old Bianchi or Shield 9mm PC in a Vedder kydex holster. Since we drifted into what can and can't be done I'll throw in a photo of my Ruger GP100 4" (40 oz) in a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake that actually carries and conceals well IWB 3 o'clock with jeans and a T-shirt. It's not great for all summertime activities but good for a long hike with the mutt down a public road in a state with no open carry.

I usually carry a Taurus 85 at work in a cheap BladeTech holster with a few speed strips in my pocket. It's lightweight, has a small profile, and conceals easily while reaching, bending, etc without printing. It's a gun I shoot well, and I do not care about getting beat up.

Other than that, I'm usually carrying a K40 in a De Santis pancake holster or Bianchi IWB holster, or a MK9 in a HighNoon tuckable holster. I use a Bianchi mag carrier for both. I OWB carry whenever I can in the summer months, but based on where I'm going and what I'm wearing, I sometimes need to go IWB.

To clarify, I generally can cover up/conceal a larger firearm, but based on my actives and attire, a larger firearm will print more, and/or will be uncomfortable. I generally do not care about printing, but sometimes it's imperative that I do not, e.g., at work, or somewhere where firearms are frowned on... That's when I might switch to a smaller pistol and/or IWB carry.

Proper Clothing.
"Fit in with the local's"
Houston is pretty diverse. Kinda hard to 'stick out'
For me,,,, Cargo shorts, sleeveless tee, (not a tank top) short sleeve button-front 'fishing' shirt (unbuttoned, not tucked),,

Just another old man headed to Wal Mart,,,,,

I stuck out like a sore thumb when dressed nice and not asking for money by Minute Maid stadium

Thats one thats always shown up if you look. :)

I had/used something similar to this back in the mid 90's that carried my MP5. It worked very well too, and even under just a one size up flannel shirt......

Ive pocket carried it too, but it just never worked as well .......:D

I think I'd rather have that MP5 vs the shotgun but hey I think I want a holster like that regardless. That pocket carry may not work in my jeans... I'll move up to cargo pants.

Is that the high noon holster you are wearing at 3 o’clock? How is it for comfort? I prefer appendix or 3 o’clock but many holsters I’ve tried aren’t very good for 3 o’clock carry.
