So .455_Hunter -- do you own either, or have you even shot these pistols?

Don't own, but have shot both, including the civilian "M17", and the P365. I also have examined two P365s that have become non-functional in less than 200 rds due to component failure. I am a mechanical engineer by trade and let's just say I have a bit of Active Duty experience with the technical aspects of military small arms.

There reaches a point where with all the guns out there and after having shot a lot of them, I get very amused by anything new that claims to revolutionize the industry.

I think a lot of folks on here feel the same way. Yeah, we would be better informed if we owned and shot them. If they shoot good, eh, so what. A lot of guns shoot good.

So a LE agency adopts something. Well that does say something I suppose but I find that aspect unremarkable.

I expect these guns will work fine and hope they never fail when called upon by the LEOs who carry them.

No doubt the military adoption of these guns will spur LEO purchases, but so will the big incentives gun companies give to the towns that buy them. Several areas here in TX switched from Glock’s to M&Ps a while back but S&W practically gave the guns away, and paid a decent price for the trade ins.

I’m not much of a Sig guy, I only own a P290 these days. It doesn’t get much love from the internet because it’s heavy for size, but I shoot it well and will keep it around. Had bought an older P226 but just wasn’t a fan.

But in the end, good on Sig. they had a large LEO following back in the DA/SA day, and I suspect they will gain some ground back with this striker fired pistol

Do the new 320s have improvements over the ones that dropped when fired? Was there a formal recall?

I would highly doubt any of the drop-issue SIGs would have made it out into world as they changed they way they are produced off the line.
There was never a recall as the ones that fire when dropped technically passed the drop test. Now, I am of the mindset that everyone who has a non-upgraded 320 should send it in. Not only does it make the gun safer, but it improved the trigger pull on mine.

I love the 320. I don't think it does anything better than any other striker 9mm. The modular thing is nice, but I just like the way the gun fits my hand. I see it as no better or worse than a Glock, M&P, FN, or the like. I simply shoot it better, especially than the Glock. Not a ding against Glock by any means. They are fine guns.

One thing I like about the military adopting the 320 is that eventually we'll see more third party parts and magazines as well as surplus holsters and accessories.

I've long enjoyed Sig pistols and owned but sold a 226, 225 and 2009. I still have and carry my P230 and P290RS 380 and expect them to be around for a long time.

There was a "voluntary" recall. The ones currently available have the fix.

The one thing I don't like about my M17 is the rear sight, specifically the very dim "night sight" feature. The tritium elements just don't glow very much at all. I would have preferred white dots, like the ones Sig puts on the regular P320's. (The front sight has a tritium element, but it's surrounded by a white dot. That's how they should have made the rear sight as well.)

Given the number of people who think 3-dot-style sights are bad, maybe they're trying to split the difference.

I prefer the high-contrast front dot and low-contrast rear myself.

The P320 ergonomics on the small grip frame are better for me than literally any other handgun. I have the small compact grip frame with the full-size slide. I like and carry my P365 a lot, but I carry the P320 whenever I can.

I don’t value government contracts as a statement on whether a gun is good or not. Lowest bidder meeting specifications gets the award. It’s rarely something I would choose if I did the research.

The P320 is a gun. It works okay. I’m sure it’s cheaper than the models which it competed against.

Certainly seeing them in more LEO holsters than I used to.

Not sure if that actually means anything without knowing the department, selection process and whatnot.

In my eyes all the poly-strikers are pretty much the same. I have Glocks and they work for me. Take away my Glocks and give me another (APX, VP9, 320, M&P, whatever) and I'll make that work too.

Just dont you dare try to take away my 1911s :fire:

That's exactly how I run mine. That small compact grip is perfect for my mits and the longer barrel squeezes out a bit more performance. The 15 round mag conceals beautifully, but as my HD gun, I usually keep a 21 round in the well.

Sig makes some fine pistols and lots of guys on Sigtalk are getting the 365's and 320's but I am old school and absolutely detest ANY striker fired pistol. Just prefer mine with a hammer.

It is not always the cost. The government and LE agencies all are adopting the modularity of these handguns as it allows them a great variety of sizes without purchasing the complete handgun.

I like sig and own quite a few of the 22x series. Great guns. I care nothing at all about the 320 personally, just wasnt impressed with the full size. I can't say ive used the compact yet. Nothing bad to say but didn't see anything special either.
Oddly I am seeing an odd amount of police trade in 320s already. Or at least guns in lots listed as trade ins. I saw some first on a website I buy a lot of trade ins from (recoil. Still listed as of right now for 500ish with NS) . Then last weekend I saw one in two stores. Buds was one (first time ever in a buds gunstore btw. Nice indoor range but not impressed otherwise) and I dont recall the name of the other. I didnt look at prices since I was out of state and I hate finding a cheap handgun when I'm out of state. Lol
I only noticed because one gentleman looking at them claimed to another that "the seals carried them for 10 or 15 years and now the rest of the military switched to them......I usually ignore such things but was dying to throw out the seals supposedly switching to glock and the fact that the 320 hadnt even been around for "10 or 15 years". The counter guy didn't say anything either. The other guys just said "is that so". I sensed some sarcasm so maybe he knew.
About a month ago I heard a similar line in Basspro in bristol from a 60s looking guy talking to his middle aged son looking at the M17. Makes me wonder if there isnt an article out there somewhere that crap is coming from. Or perhaps an article just said the seals carried Sig and assumptions were made.
I guess if a department were blessed and got new guns every 4 or 5 years or so and they got the first 320s? Idk. Strikes me as odd to see such a new gun as a police trade in.

Exactly. These kind of "press releases" are a very common way that marketing people pat the sales people on the back for making a deal they can brag about whether it really impresses anyone else or not. At the end of the day, it's the finance people that are going to look at the volume of sales and the margin and decide whether this is just so much smoke up the pipe. And for the consumer, whether civilian, military, or law-enforcement does any of it matter? I suppose what matters to them is the deal they get for themselves. Now if SIG wants to offer me an P226 Legion, an MCX Canebrake, a suppressor, and optics with three classes at the Sig Academy and a 7 year armorer's support contract for $4000, I'm willing to talk. But the deal someone else got is not a reason for me to go out and pay full price.
