traded into a Super 1050 in .40SW- going to convert over into a 223/5.56 setup
in a perfect world- what's the optimal setup for making it a one pass setup if it's possible?
looking for some advice from Super 1050 owners

with using clean brass already- not decapped or swaged
wanting to use a RT1500 trimmer
not limiting to Dillon Dies- though I have them (steel 223 dies) along with Match Hornady Bushing setup, Sinclair Mandrel, Mighty Armory universal decapping die and Match FL sizing Die,

Looking to load precision ammo on it, not just blammo ammo
thoughts?

I bought the Dillon 1500 Trimmer thinking I would do it all at once on my RL1050. It doesn't work out. I would have to give up decapping or primer pocket swaging. Since I would have to prep the brass elsewhere, I set up my 650 to size, decap, and trim. Then clean the brass with ss pins. I load flat base bullets so I made a case mouth belling insert for the size die on the 1050. A slight bell was needed for the bullets from the auto feeder dropped in far enough to not fall out during indexing. I've got an old 550 b that I'm going to replace to 650 with. I normally leave the 650 set up in 308 or 30-06. I've got about 4k 223 brass left to process. Then I'll switch it back over.

Gotcha...If I gave up decapping, could it be done?
Then I would just decap as current on my Lee APP and then Wet Tumble prior to putting on the 1050?

I think so. I'll have to look if the Dillon trim die is also a sizer. I'm not sure. If you size when decapping on the APP then it should work fine. I called Dillon when I was setting mine up. The tech guys are really helpful.

Yes, normally would have been first call. But it's Sunday so have to wait until tomorrow before I can make that call.
thanks

In a perfect world, your brass doesn’t need to be trimmed and 1 pass is possible, so your good to go, with lots of presses.

If it needs to be trimmed the manifold for the Dillon trimmer is large enough to preclude the use of a die to either side of it, making 1 pass case prep and reloading something that’s not going to happen, with any Dillon.

It is but I set mine up so they are the same as my size/deprime die. This way they just compress the case enough to keep it from spinning while being cut, if they need it.

If the size/deprime die and trim die are set with the same case gauge there is enough “spring back” on even annealed cases to where this is no problem.

Copy that sir...that's what I was hoping to avoid, but it looks like it's still a 2 pass setup - no matter which press I use. More to think about and decide what press to do what with now. Appreciate the insight.

I just used a 650 with the trimmer on it and did the load pass on a 1050. So everything stayed setup.

Once I go through all of my prepped brass, I’ll likely put the trimmer on an extra 1050 tool head because it’s automated now.

I had hoped to keep the 223 to the 1050 and leave my 650 for 9mm/38 Super currently. So that the 1050 handled the swaging after decapping...
It's definitely not a hard thing to change over the 650 for quick trimming and do a large batch of processing...probably much easier than changing over the 1050.
