Howdy All.

I need suggestions for some stocks for a new model Ruger Super Blackhawk. I want something that covers the back of the grip frame as a 320 grain bullet at 1200 fps tends to sting a bit.

I'd prefer wood but all I can find is Pacmayer Decelerators. Anyone have any suggestions?

You don't need a grip that covers the backstrap to shoot comfortably, you need grips that fit your sixgun and your hand properly. I like mine a little thicker at the top, with less taper towards the bottom and for long grips like the Super, flat bottoms. Cary Chapman of CLC does them right and I would highly recommend sending him your grip frame for proper fitment.

Some guys like the soft rubber hogue grips to help handle rcoil and offers a more squared up grip and many use a ruger Bisley grip frame conversion kit and give a more downward grip angle that helps to control the roll of a single action. Brownell has pictures but out of stock.

I like Eagle Gunfighter grips on my Ruger New Model Blackhawks and Super Blackhawk. I get smooth grips for heavy recoiling guns like my SBH and checkered grips for my NMBH in .357 that I use for CAS.

I just went through this same issue with my own SBH. I was thinking of one of the infill sytle grips. But really my problem was that the stock grips were too skinny up around the "neck" of the frame where the thumb and middle fingers provide the most grip. I did up some fatter grips and adjusted my hold, which was also somewhat too high and now I'm a happy camper even when shooting full power loads. So if you've got big hands, which is sort of suggested by your search for grips that cover the back strap, then maybe all you need is some fatter grips.

Besides if the grips cover the back strap and they are wood they won't provide any cushioning anyway. For that function you NEED to use rubber grips like Pachmyer and Hogue or similar rubber options.
