After a 13 years absents from hand gun hunting I put on lay-away a used 44mag Super Red Hawk with a 2x Leupold on top. The trigger is great and is much better than my past Black Hawk. The gun looks like new. The price is $550. That seems fair from my “vast” internet search. Does any one make a leather holster for this combo? I have contacted Rob Leahy and David Johnston with no luck. I did find this

but is a little pricey. I am open to any ideas and thank you for the help.

I hunt with a 9 1/2" scoped SRH, sorry......no way I am going to carry something like that on my hip. I carry mine in an Uncle Mike's Bandoleer shoulder holster.

I hunt with a scoped SRH 7 1/2" .44 mag. I had a uncle mikes shoulder rig and hated it. After no luck finding a molded holster I purchased one from Ruger. The took the holster to a tack shop. They took a small amount of leather out of the top to accomadate scope mounts. Then sewed the edge to reinforce. No problems and the weight isn't that bad. One belt on your pants with my knife then a wide pistol belt over that. Only cost me $45 from Ruger and another $40 for the leather work.

I bought one of those back in 2004 or so for my Dad as a retirement present. It is all stainless, with Ruger scope rings and a 2-6x matching scope. The only thing I did to it was to put a Wilson trigger upgrade in it. My dad didn't hunt, it was just and affordable big ass gun that he could have fun with at the range. I picked the whole rig up for less than $300 Dad only got to put about one box of ammo through it. It's back with me now and I have to say it is one fun gun to shoot.

I use a bandoleer holster for my 9.5". It is similar to the Uncle Mikes. It flops around a bit as I don't usually secure it on my belt, but it works for my needs. I like it because I can adjust it easily as I add and subtract clothing as the day progresses.

I haven't looked at prices on SRH's lately, but that's probably not bad. I paid $579 for my 7.5" .454 casull brand new in 2005, but that doesn't mean squat in today's market.

Shoot, enjoy!

The gun is ugly and a horse pistol, but it will do the job. The other day, I went through my safe and came across my S&W 629 and it brought back lots of memories. When I bought that 629 years ago, they just weren't available. I had been on a waiting list for months and when it finally came in, my dealer put it in his display case so people could see it. When I came in to pick it up, I had several offers to buy it for considerably more than the retail price I was paying. Stainless was new and exciting, the 29 was hot and very "in". I took it home with every intention of using it to hunt wild pig with friends, but never got around to it. So it's been in the safe ever since and has never been fired.

The Rugers found an eager market, and while they're big and a bit awkward, they do the job.

Sounds like a fair deal to me with scope, I got my 44 srh back in the mid to late 90's cant really remember what year. I've probably driven 2 or 3 thousand rounds through it by now and it still shoots very accurate. I have hunted it scoped for awhile then I opted for the fiber optic front site instead. Killed one big fat doe with it this season.
Confederate is right it does the job. If you like to shoot alot its about as durable as it gets. This gun is the easy to break down for cleaning also. It is a tough gun, packs good, and great hunter.

I have been using a Uncle Mike's Bandoleer chest rig for years. It has a full flap and covers the scope for complete protection from the elements. If your going to hunt rough country a open holster sucks.

David Johnston did get back to me with a $185 price. Leather is $$$$$$$. I will wait to see how much I like the scope.
