This guy zigged when he should have zagged and got a Remington Subsonic in the back of the head. The gun is my MKII Ruger with Gemtech can. suppressedyote.jpg

You don't list your location in your profile, but judging by that picture you're in the desert SW, probably AZ, NM, or possibly UT, or CO. Maybe even west TX. Be aware that most states, and certainly AZ ban the use of suppressors while hunting, even for varmints. I would advise against the use of suppressors for that very reason, unless you have verified that your state does allow their use.

Personally, I think suppressors should be legal for hunting but that's a whole 'nuther thread.

Sumpnz,

I am not in any of the states listed. Hunting with a suppressor is perfectly legal where I am at. But thanks for the advice. I am sure that there are some who are unaware as to class three issues.

Mr Bowman,

Being a mall ninja I am a little "internet shy" as to posting my face;) .

Legal here in Oregon, even for big game.

Question, how loud is that Ruger with the can. I have shot a couple of 10-2’s and find the action males a lot of noise.

Check around. There are no restriction in Utah on hunting with silencers.

Very nice. Give us some more details on the whole senario: range shot. Were you calling ?
I have an AAC Phoenix, integrally suppressed Ruger Mk.II. I was kind of disappointed in the terminal performance against jackrabbits. In the little bit of jackrabbit shooting I have done, I didn't feel that subsonic .22s had much punch. A coyote is a tough animal and certainly far bigger than a jack. Obviously, I underestimated the punch of a subsonic .22.

A few details:

Purely an opportunity shot. Running away @ 20 to 30 yards. I fired three fast shots at the back of his head. Only one hit him but it was enough.

Reference the Jackrabbits. I have shot a bunch of jacks with suppressed 22s and have formed the opinion that unless you get a head shot do not expect much of a reaction. Jacks can be tougher than they appear. I prefer fast light hollowpints such as 124 grain GoldDots out of my G19 or G34. That tears em up. 45 GoldDot does not open up on them and acts like ball ammo. It works great on deer though.
