Hey guys I'm just wondering if you are required by law to have your BATFE forms and tax stamp before you purchase a threaded barrel for a weapon (or simply purchase a new weapon which is suppressor ready). I don't imagine this is a problem but I know it can get dicey with things like SBRs depending on when you start getting the parts and assembling things.

I want to be in compliance with the law and I haven't seen any indication that all the paperwork has to be squared away before getting the barrel. This is not a question about the suppressor itself, I know you need your ducks in a row before you get that, this is simply a question about threaded barrels.

I wouldn't own a 10" one, threaded or not unless I had a pistol to attach it to, but if it's otherwise legal in your state there's no problem owning a 16"+ one. What I don't know is if your particular state has some state-level restrictions on threaded barrels, like California does.

I'm in Oregon, so we're pretty fair about NFA stuff it seems. I should have specified this would be a suppressor for a pistol, not a rifle or SBR. I don't own any NFA items currently so this would be my first time wading into the paperwork and process. I know it takes a while, but I wanted to know if once I get the paperwork submitted then I can go pick up a handgun with a thread while I wait to hear back?

That's an Oregon question. Here in KY you can have threaded barrels on anything you want regardless of whether you have an approved stamp.

If threaded barrels are legal in Oregon, it's no problem at all. A barrel having threads has absolutely no bearing on the NFA. You can get a threaded barrel any time without any specific reason for whatever firearm you want. Threads having nothing to do with anything. Having said that, since Oregon is on the left coast, check local Oregon laws.
