Ok, what's the difference? I've heard that suppressors work as silencers, but only when using subsonic ammo. I've heard that silencers slow the bullet to subsonic speeds, therefore making it as quiet as subsonic ammo through a suppressor. Is there a price difference (I assume)? Can anyone provide links? Thanks.

Also, make sure whether you're talking about flash suppressors or sound suppressors. Flash suppressors don't have any restrictions in and of themselves. Sound suppressors ("silencers") are also flash suppressors, but also muffle the sound of the gun's discharge. Sound suppressors won't muffle the supersonic crack of a bullet as it flies through the air, which is why using subsonic ammo with sound suppressors is usually preferred.

There is most definately a price difference. You can buy an A2 birdcage flash suppressor for an AR15 for <$5 easy. Even the cheapest .22LR sound suppressors are usually $200 or more.

Clever: You sure about flash suppressors being legal?

If they are, why do I never see any new ARs for sale with them?

I'm pretty sure I've read that they are illegal for post-ban guns.

It's not the FS itself that's restricted. It's putting it on a semi-auto rifle that already has 1 banned feature that's restricted.
