I got tired of answering the same questions about suppressors 500 times. So i got with my friend Chris Reed who is a Class 2 and we made a vidio answering some of the most common questions. Hope someone here enjoys it or gets something out of it.

I agree. He's quite correct when talking about subsonic .223 rounds. But a lot of suppressed weapons are handguns firing rounds like .22LR, .32ACP, .380ACP, .45ACP etc, which are already subsonic, or 9mm with commonly available 147gr ammo, which is subsonic. These are all commonly used defensive cartridges, even the .22 in some mini revolvers.

I don't disagree with what he says about the nonsense they've made of NFA regs in this country, but when you leave big holes in your argument like this, it only leaves openings for the antigunners to portray you as telling half truths, and attack you for it (even while they themselves are perpetuating half truths, either out of ignorance, or even intentionally).

I was referring to .223 sub sonic rounds not 9mm. I was mostly talking about civilian rifles which are going to be about the same as the .223. Even subsonic .308 is on the wimpy side. I don't support using suppressors for self defense so I don't concern myself with that aspect of it at all. It's purely a sporting tool to me.

Decent video, however I agree with the above posters - subsonic doesn't mean less deadly, it just means comparatively poor terminal ballistics where rifle rounds are considered (and SOME handgun rounds).

Personally I plan to purchase my first suppressor in February (an Osprey .45) primarily to protect my kids' hearing in the event I need to use my firearm defensively at home.

Outdoors is one thing, but firing an unsuppressed weapon indoors is going to generate a loud enough sound that hearing damage will result.

Why would you not support a silencer for defense? It's just a muffler, and nothing more. Would I carry one while out and about if it was legal? No. But in my home where it is legal and where the sound pressure will be greatly amplified, as will the flash and disorienting muzzle pressure. I'll take my chances and use my tools at my disposal.
