Not quite sure how it happened but Minnesota has passed an new law and suppressors are now legal. I'm thinking it would be nice to have one on my Sig Mosquito for playing up at the cabin. I have a couple of questions for anyone who has experience with this.

1. Sig makes a Mosquito with a threaded barrel to accept a suppressor. Unfortunately, my mosquito does not have one. Has anyone got the threaded barrel and changed it out or am I better off just trading the one I have in on one with the threaded barrel?

2. Any recommendations on a suppressor and do the make that much of a difference on a 22 pistol?

Thanks

Suppressor on a short-barreled pistol will make just about all .22 LR ammunition subsonic, which means yes- they can make quite a difference.

I have a YHM stinger and my buddy has a mosquito, it work very well on it. I like the stinger for the money and it is easy to take apart. One of the most recommended 22 suppressors would be the silencerCo sparrow.

We have the AAC Pilot 2. It's light and small diameter, just a pain to disassemble and clean. It seems that I can never fully get the baffles clean due to leading. I'm strongly considering a second .22 suppressor in the form of the SF Ryder. Great looking and feeling and allegedly much easier to clean with the coated baffles. Of course, the price is almost double some of the competing units.

I have a TacSol Axiom and love it. It's rated for 22LR, 22Mag, 17HMR, and FN 5.7x28. Makes a big difference one a pistol and makes a huge difference on a rifle when shooting standard velocity ammo. High velocity ammo in a rifle will be loader though. 22 suppressors are tons of fun!

I have an AAC Aviator, which does not come apart for cleaning. I have a Sparrow in NFA jail. Once I receive my Sparrow the Aviator will receive little use I'm sure. Anyway, the Aviator gets used on several 22lr pistols and two 22lr rifles. Lots of good quiet fun. You'll never regret the purchase.

I have only compared 3 cans side by side: sparrow, spectre 2, and surfire ryder. Spectre 2 was quietest, with little to no FRP on a pistol, the sparrow had a pretty loud FRP, but the rest of the shots were nice and quiet. The ryder was a severe disappointment. Every shot was as loud as the FRP of the sparrow.*

spectre 2 and axiom are currently at the top of my list. The liberty regulator looks very interesting as well, but it sure is expensive.
*(tested indoor's at a gun shop, walther p22 as host, CCI standard velocity ammo. sparrow and ryder were brand new. spectre was about 200 rounds old.)

CCI woulda been subsonic for sure, any of the cans should have been quite effective with it.

I have had a Spectre 2 in NFA limbo since February. I'm hoping I will get the call in the next month or so. I'm looking forward to not hearing it :)

I have a YHM on a M&P compact and love it. It comes already threaded, is inexpensive and works like a champ. I use the setup for shooting hogs in traps, coons in traps and just for fun. I even shot a copperhead outside my back door yesterday morning without bothering my wife asleep in the house.
