OK, so the Surefire comes with a battery pack...which seems to be just 2 or 3 (depending on the model) batteries shrink-wrapped together. Is there any practical difference between using the packaged batteries versus the appropriate number of 'aftermarket' batteries?

I imagine it would have something to do with recoil buffering, if anything at all.

I ask because I will use the light more in training if I know that I won't have to pay an arm and a leg to replace the Special Tactical Battery Pac.

PS alternately, I could just use loose batteries for training (if it won't damage the light) and save the packed set for duty use. Hmmm....

They are the same batteries stuck togeather. But It does assist with recoil buffering. I just use the regular battaries and use a small amount of electrical tape to connect them. This means I can buy the battaries locally instead of ordering them.
