Surefire appears to have produced some decent 12 round magazines for the Saiga-12. And they add some serious length (its a little exaggerated b/c of my Tromix 11" shorty but should not look too dissproportionate on a standard Saiga-12 as they really are not all that long).

Surefire 12-rounder:

Compared to:

MDArms 20-rounder:

And I have heard from very reliable sources that every time someone buys a Saiga mag some liberal, somewhere, cries themselves to sleep at night. Just what I heard

Be safe.

:)

I can understand why people with saiga's would want high capacity magazines, but I think the 12 rd mags are to long.

quad rail

Please,
who manufactures that hand rail? its perfect. I've tried looking for it everywhere but cant find one.

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why no manufacturer will just make a set of quality 8 round magazines that are a clone of the factory 8 rounders.

The factory 8 rounders are awesome, and they are very hard to get as they are not imported (and won't be anytime soon due to import regs....the saigas come from a sole distributor, and the sole distributor cannot import "non-sporting" stuff)

All someone needs to do is make a damn pair of lightweight, metal, 8 round saiga 12 mags and they'd be a millionaire...Ahh...what I'd give to have a friend with auto CAD and a machine shop!

EDIT: Chaos 10-round drum looks very promising, and it's metal, hopefully it won't cost a fortune like the MD20 does. And it's a lot smaller and nimble.

I read somewhere that leaving Saiga mags loaded for a while will actually deform the top shell and cause jamming issues, any truth to that?

Yes, the top shell deforms from magazine pressure. Not unique to shotgun ammo or mags though, even regular bullets will deform after being left in a magazine for a while.

I recently ran 12 round surefires at a shotgun match. Didn't actually find them that bad ergonomically. I do prefer the drum though, but the mags are much more cost effective.

That said I leave my 5 rounder in while it's in the safe at home. I've cut a BHO notch in the safe lever that keeps the pressure off the top round.

The issue is not loaded mags per se. It is loaded mags in the gun on a closed bolt. It is the the round pressing agains the bottom of the bolt that causes the deformation.

On a stock gun yes with certain ammo this can occur. Some will deform quickly, some never will and others are in between.

People either leave the bolt locked back, use a top round that wont deform, or various other tricks. I am interested to know if shaving the bolt (people do this for quicker reloads and a smoother action) would also have the effect of lessening or eliminating top round deformation. I might have my bolt done by Jack Travers. If I do I will test this out.

Last i heard it was projected to run around $100. I'm also interested in the MD double stacks. I've actually held off on getting a magwell which I believe is one of the best current mod one can do to a S12 to see how these double stacks come out.

Have you actually used any?

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY THESE WORTHLESS, POORLY MADE MAGAZINES.

I didn't even get a chance to fire my 12-rounder, I stuck it in the gun and bumped the buttstock against the ground- very lightly mind you, not a slam just a SMALL bump- and the entire front section with the retainer lip just broke off! The plastic is no where nearly strong enough for what they are trying to do.

Don't waste your money.

P.S. if anyone knows how I can get ahold of them for warranty/voice my resentment, it would be much appreciated.

PB did you get the "Surefire" and not a cheap knock off?

im not doubting you just that alot of those surefires have been used without failure and surefire usualy makes good stuff

i know a few chinese knockoff companies make them and they are junk

It says "Surefire Gun Mags LLC" and "made in USA."

I bought it at a reputable gun shop.

That being said, it is complete and utter crap.
