Am looking at buying some military surplus powder for my .308 Win, .30-06, and 6.5x55 reloading. WC846 and WC852 run $64/8-lb jug, plus HAZMAT and shipping. Much better than the $22/lb plus tax I have to pay for local powder! There's also "Special ball-(like 380?)", PT 2521C, IMR 7383 ($24/7-lb) and WC860 ($40)...don't know what these will load. I like 4895...but that runs $80 to $100/8-lb, much less of a deal.

Problem is, none of these (except the 4895) appear in my reloading manuals. Why? Where can I get reloading data with related pressure data? Suggestions?

Hope you can help clear my confusion!

I'll let you know what I found out so far about the surplus powders I've ordered from him although this isn't the powder you're considering. I do have some WC846 that I thought I was testing, but that's another story. Don't pull my bonehead mistake and swich powders by mistake. Link to info on that at the end of my post.

In experimenting with my powder from Bartlett I found that my lot of WC820 (H-110 equiviant) was about 18% more potent than H-110 in my .50 AE out of my Desert Eagle.

325 gr Speer GDHP seated to max OAL, CCI Large Magnum Pistol primer, IMI brass for both powders.
WC 820 lot 50272 produced up to 1300 FPS with 27.0 grains of powder
Hodgdon H-110 of various lots have all taken 32.0 grains of powder to reach ~1300 FPS. Max in the my Speer manual for H-110 is 32.6 grains.

This can very quite a bit from lot to lot, but start WAY low, below starting, and work up. A lodged bullet is better than an overpressured round. Oh, and I don't recommend accidently switching WC820 and WC846. When I test my lot of WC826 I'll try to remember to post it back to this thread. For your amusement and education in the meantime you can check out my other thread or my little webpage about it here.
