Walked into my local gun shop today and it just so happened that he had a SVT 40. Apparently a truck driver had blown his clutch and needed cash so he traded it in. The numbers show that it is a 1941 Izzy model and I paid $990 for it, my wife is going to kill me if she see's it. I just couldn't pass it up!

SVTs are sweet shooters, soft recoil and relatively lightweight compared to other rifles, but the field strip is pain in ***.
btw: isnt $990 too much? It usually costs about $200...

Ah that is why, those are per import prices, they cost 1000 here because so few are in circulation in the states.

Nice gun, even nicer store with good people it is my favorite gun shop in the area

Enjoy shooting the SVT

Very nice, I love mine. I will be nice and not mention what I paid, let us leave it at a steal. Mine really likes the 148gr that comes in the white boxes, I cannot remember the name of that ammo though.

Edit: It is called Ulyanovsk

Welcome to the club! (The best one around) yours looks in great shape! Just don't shoot heavy ball, and your wood will stay nice looking (140ish gr is your friend)

Why is it that there are so few SVTs in the US?

Bill Clinton was afraid that Russia was going to flood us with guns, so he signed a Voluntary Restraint Agreement with them. The only guns they can export to us have to be on an OK list.

The SVT-40 didn't make the list.

However, Russia has recently joined the Word Trade Organization, which apparently requires nullification of all voluntary export restraints such as Clinton's. If this is correct, we might see some great stuff in the next few years including SVT-40's.

Another of those rifles which was relatively common in the pawn shops of Fayetteville when I was in the Army. So common in fact, that like many others - I figured I would always be able to pick one up later. Yeah, right!

They are great rifles, I agree with about everything said here...I do love mine. I will only shoot LB in mine and not surplus stuff...cleanup is a bit of a pain.

They are nice shooters and the folks next to you will want to know what canon you have....they are vocal.

I think you got a good deal.

I remember walking around the ancestral farm one cold winter day several years ago. I had chosen to carry one of my SVT-40s. I ran into one of my cousins returning from a hunt and asked about the bizarre-looking rifle on my shoulder.

I handed it over and explained what it was. His only comment upon returning it to me was something about how crude the machining was on the piece.

He has grown up with beautifully fitted & finished Remchesterbys all of his life (he was the first person that I knew who bought a gunsafe many years ago), so I just nodded and agreed.

At a later date, when he heard me shooting in my backyard (his house is ~200yds down the ridgeline) and came over to see what was making so much noise, he got a chance to shoot one ... and he turned to look at me with large eyes upon realizing how soft-shooting & accurate this crudely-MFRed and LOUD rifle is. :)

svt-40

nice !!!!!!!!! i wish i would have bought a couple more when i got mine for$260.00 select grade ,after then they disappeared .

If I could afford one, I would purchase multiple crates of surplus 7.62 russian ammo for it. Russia needs to import the tens of thousands they no doubt still have sitting in warehouses somewhere. Thank the communist mindset for that, they had no concept of relative value......

The only problems I see with it so far are that it is missing the cleaning rod and the entire safety mechanism is gone. Everything else looks good, it has a bright bore with good rifling and the stock doesn't have any repaired cracks in it.
