anyone experienced with both to provide me with a competant opinion about either of them? I've shot plenty with an older 22/45, but I'n never shot or handled a 22A. I'm going to get one or the other and wondered what other people's experience was.

Ive owned and shot both.
.22A is a breeze to take down and was as accurate as my 22/45. It didnt feel as sturdy of a gun but it held up well under a few thousand rounds. Plus they are cheap to buy. I never had jambs but did get light primer strikes if i didn't clean it every 800 rounds.

MKIII 22/45 wasn't much more, But if you get one get the one with removable panels. It fits the had so much better. It has a great after market which can get expensive. Accuracy and reliability is the same on both for me. Take down and cleaning is a PITA until you have done it 10 times and i had to follow a web page each time with instructions. I modded mine out myself and bought no parts and took out the trigger pretravel and reset. Then i polished the action completely and made a sear adjustment system with washers. I also took out the mag safety disconnecter which allows sling shotting the slide. Ive had no failures to say that was the guns fault as ive shot alot of stupid ammo threw this gun i was experimenting with a ammo resizer i bought.
Ive actually had grown men giggle when they fired mine they loved it so much.

So imo if you want a gun that you wont touch mod wise and want it easy to clean and reliable i suggest the .22A
If you like to tinker and mod and buy upgrade parts and dont mind tedious cleaning jobs due to putting it back together the 22/45 may be for you.

Resale value goes too the 22/45 for sure.
