I have put about 200 rounds through my M and P compact and I noticed that were the slide comes back it rubs accross the little piece that has the bullet indicator hole and says " 9 mm". The black is kind of rubbing away and you can see the ss underneath.

Is this normal? What do you do when it is totally rubbed away?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Thanks

Assuming you are talking about the barrel chamber area?
If you shoot the gun, it is going to wear the finish off the barrel hood.

It is perfectly normal for most auto pistols to wear the finish off the top of the chamber area of the barrel.

That is also the locking block on your gun that locks the slide & barrel together when the gun is in battery. There is not a lot of clearance there when the gun un-locks and the slide comes back.

Keep it lubed lightly inside the slide, and ignore it.

Think of it as a shiny badge of honor.

The M&P was never intended to be a safe queen. let it get scratched, scuffed and worn to prove to the world that it is a shooter's pistol.
